Regressia

Walkthrough: Act 1

Red Haven

Your quest begins in the throne room of Red Haven castle. Be sure to talk with the old prophet before leaving, as he can save your progress. Talk to everyone in the castle to get your bearings. Just west of the castle gates you'll find a secret path around the west side of the castle, leading to an old man with a free bandage. Exit the castle and walk several spaces over to the town of Red Haven. Again, talk to everyone in town to get a feel for where you should go next. Check the pots, too, as there are several hidden bandages, especially at the far east of town. Stop at each of the shops around town and plan your shopping. You can't go wrong with buying a Copper Sword, and you should probably leave the armor for later. North of the weapon and armor shops you'll find the Inn. Always use the Inn before closing Regressia, otherwise your progress will not be saved.

Hidden in a forest to the north is a cave filled with bats. Train until you are around level 3, and purchase a couple torches before you enter here. You may also want to purchase a Bracelet as this will raise your vitality, increasing both your maximum Health as well as the potency of healing items like bandages. There are several chests in this cave, including some Cloth Armor, bandages, and a little gold, so keep your eyes open. On the second floor you'll meet an NPC. Talk to her to initiate the boss battle against the Succubus. The Succubus is a strong enemy who likes to sap away your health, so save some bandages just for this fight.

Return to Red Haven castle after killing the Succubus; there you'll find that the king has returned to health. In gratitude, the queen will reward you with a tome. Read this tome to learn the Heal spell. Be sure to talk with the treasurer, located at the center of the castle, before leaving. He has an all new set of equipment for you.

Willognook

Exit Red Haven castle, head west across the bridge that is now open for travel, and then continue northwest until you reach the town of Willognook. Talk to the NPCs here. Search around the empty weapon and armor shops until you find a secret passage; you will be rewarded with the Copper Knife. Once you've determined that Erastus is not here, exit town and head south to the forested peninsula where you will find Erastus. Talk to him to learn the spell Fire. To the east of Willognook there is a forest with a cave hidden inside. Go there and fight Wilhelm, using your new Fire skill. This will open the road to Alderdale.

There is one other item of interest in this area: the mountain passage known as Railoah. You can get there by exiting Willognook and traveling due east. There is nothing you can do here at this time (except get blasted by Mages, but you should take note of its location for later.

Alderdale

The cave passage to Alderdale is long but not very difficult. If you have trouble with the Death's Head moths, just give them a quick blast of Fire, which they are extremely weak against. Just before the end of the passage you will be confronted with a choice to go either up a staircase or south through a narrow passage. The staircase leads to an observatory which is safe from monsters, the passages leads out of the cave and to Alderdale.

When you arrive in Alderdale you will find that the town is being blockaded. After saving at the Inn and restocking on items, head to the southeast end of town where you will find the docks and travel agency. The agency isn't selling tickets, but there is a pirate in the building who is looking for able bodies to man his ship. Talking to the Pirate will initiate a battle against The Gorgon. The first part of this battle is a naval battle, which means that you fight using the pirate's ship. You can experiment with the options, but a combination of ramming and firing the main guns works best. Once the ship is weakened you'll have to repel boarders. This is a normal battle against a moderately tough opponent. If you are at least level 7 and have several bandages, then you should be fine.

Once you have sunk The Gorgon the pirate ship will sail you east to Eastarbor. ...That is, if you have Subscribed. Otherwise you are in for a rough ride!

Eastarbor

The town of Eastarbor is not a friendly place. Once in town, head straight to the Inn at the north of town. Otherwise you might die, restart in Alderdale, and have to purchase a ride back. Feel free to explore the place once you have saved. East of the Inn there is a stairway leading to an underground storage area where the townsfolk are secretly hiding. Talking to the guards will initiate a battle, so avoid them unless you are training. In the south of town is a crazed monk from the mountain temple; when he is defeated he leaves behind the Grimoire, a book of magic with increases your magic power when equipped. Train on the guards and monsters outside town until you are around level 10.

Ostniade Castle

Exit town and go west. When you get to the water, head north. This will take you through a forest and eventually to Ostniade Castle where King Aidan rules. This is your first big dungeon with a boss battle at the end, but first you have to get past the Gate Keeper. This is a fast enemy which will often attack twice for every once that you attack. Do as much damage as quickly as possible while they whittle down your hp. I suggest equipping a bracelet and using Fire.

The west side of the first floor has three rooms with several items in them. On the east side there is an empty room and a room with a staircase leading to the dungeon. You will not be able to get into the dungeon rooms, but you can talk with prince Jonas through his cell door. After talking with Jonas you will be able to continue to the second floor of the castle, which is just a long hallway with a staircase to the third floor at the end.

The Cold Shield and the Iron Hammer can both be found in a room on the west side of the third floor. Equip the Cold Shield, but not the Iron Hammer; though it is much stronger than your current weapon, it is also much slower. Search the bookcases on the east side of the third floor and you will find an ancient tome. Read the tome and you will learn the Light spell. The northeast corner of this floor has a staircase leading down.

Take the stairs down, and head to the end of the corridor, there you will find the throne room where Aidan waits for you. Aidan has a strong physical attack, and will Heal himself. Equip the Grimoire and blast him with fire, healing whenever your health drops below 15. Once you defeat him prince Jonas will award you with the Signet Ring, a powerful charm which will serve you well for a long time to come.
