Note: I know this isnt everybody and there are exceptions to this so if you are one im sorry but this is the general feel im getting from byond now

Once again Im asking for help on my game. This is the last time. When I left BYOND awhile back it was because I didnt have the time, but it seems I should have stayed away as the community has become worse. Since Ive been back this is what I have found
- People posting ripped code in forums asking why it doesnt do what they want instead of trying
- Trolls all over the place
- People complaining about trolls
- A shitload of request for help (myself included) that never get answered or get shot down
- And a general lack of friendliness or willingness to help anybody

I understand certain things take time and not everyone has time. I am not just complaining cause no one is helping me (though i am frustrated with that).

What bothers me is no one is even trying to help people anymore. Most of the responses on the forum when people ask for help are "search first" or "look here" or "read the help files first". And for those people who are trying to get a quick answer thats mostly fine. But for those that are really looking for advice and have put in the effort to look (say like my last post on the code problem forum) dont get much or any response.

Thats just coding, when it comes to iconning there is literaly almost no chance of a request getting responded to. I have posted several different request in several different threads(the main one, art society, anime) asking for things from base help, terrain, or to join the team. Im not expecting tons of responses, but I have yet to get one who was interested in working, all my responses were people saying something that didnt need to be said, or no response at all.

I have gradually upped the compensation with my frustration, I dont have money but started offering some and got less response. What is with the community on byond that no one is willing to help.

Most people complain about ripped games and the fact that anime games flood the community well thats because noone is willing to help with original games. the only way you have a chance of making an original game is if you are an artist and can make your own icons. Otherwise you have no chance of getting someone willing to help.

This is just my rant as I have put a lot of time into my game and made a lot of features which I have yet to see on other games. I was excited to be programming again and love to come up with unique things. For those that have talked to me know I try and do things original and have some good ideas on game play.

So as most people wont bother reading this far, or bother working with me after this little rant, this is probably pointless, but oh well

This game has many new features and all though I wanted to save them for the release its not going to be released if I dont get some help, so here are some features

- Isometric world (nice feature with new byond that allows for depth in the world, and things like jumping, flying, and a nicer feel)

- Battle System- I really wanted to save this for the release but this is a unique system I have yet to see implemented well and makes the game more challenging than just button mashing. In order to use your skill you have to perform a combo. There are four buttons and if you hit the right combo you perform the attack. It was fluid, automatically fired once you correctly completed the attack and allowed for more challenging game play while still keeping it fun

- Learning- I had one system done with learning new skills from scrolls and you would do a see and repeat type minigame to learn the new skill. Other things i was in the process of was teacher challenges, one type being a puzzle you would have to solve (similar to old zelda type rooms, or God of War style) or battle your teacher.

- Leveling- the pitfall of most RPG or anime games on byond in my opinion, while some might like it I hate that if you start a game you are instantly killed by high level players and dont have a chance until you get really high levels so the game becomes one of avoiding those players and trying to train to become higher level. Well my game had no levels and your health and stats were close to being the same whether you were just starting or had been playing for months, so whats the difference then, your skills, the skills have levels which would make them stronger with a cap on them, and what skills you learn, some can only be learned by stronger players, this allows a new player with just one skill to out maneuver an older player and still have a chance to win

- Missions- Simple missions that give you money or reputation, but was going to be many of them. things like rescue the town from bandits or fend off from wild animals, find lost items, escort missions, etc. nothing too revolutionary but fun none the less

And most of this is already coded in. I have the system for attacks where it takes me maybe 5 minutes to add in a new one (unless its a completely different type of attack). I have the missions where it takes me maybe 10 minutes. The learning minigame is all automatic. The puzzles are the main thing that needs to be worked on still as they are a little difficult but the base system is getting there and once its done the only thing to make new puzzles is designing the room.

So I need iconners, i suck at it and cant do it, its not where my talent is, and i need help. So please help
Keep in mind that you're also using relatively new isometric functions that fewer people have experience with. I (and I imagine others) face the extreme end of that problem a lot as I'm at a level where my questions require specific experience that could make me the closest thing to an expert.

Answering questions reliably takes a decent mix of knowledge of enthusiasm. Honestly, I decreased my frequency of replies years ago. I got sick of making the effort just to have whoever asked ignore my attempt at education for a chunk of questionable code. I'm generally willing to create demos as sweeping gestures, but I don't care for the micromanagement of forums.
Yes I do understand that and most times I dont end up even posting to the forum because I either figure out a solution or find the answer on my own. Its not just my stuff though, its reading through the post and the responses. And Im bad at it too, I read through other peoples post and problems to see if I can help and usually before Im able to post something there is one of the typical responses, or I feel that the person hasnt even tried and Im one that wont help someone who hasnt tried themselves, or in someone has helped them already
Generally speaking the issues you have highlighted are by no means new, most probably pre-date your being on the site (well, that key at least). The issue with help is a matter of resourcing.

Unless you happen to naturally love teaching (and even then), helping people attempt to learn something in a very draining activity. This is made worse by a "means to an end" attitude among those usually requiring help, which doesn't weigh up well against the "best principles" attitude of those usually helping.

I'm a professional software engineer, but it is extremely unusual for me to decide to post in response to a request for some help, despite the fact I'm more than technically capable of answering. My mentality is very different to the poster usually, and any answer I would execute (although it may solve their problem) would drain me when they miss half of what I say because it's not an immediate problem for them.

As for artists, you may want to look outside BYOND to get someone. You have to appreciate that while BYOND has something like 4000 members, the player / developer ratio is swung in favour of players, so good artists are simply in short supply.
Like Stephen said, everything you just stated that was wrong with BYOND has always been going on. There's really no "start" or "end" to rips and stupidity.
Welcome to BYOND 2010.
Never really thought it was the beginning just seems so much more prominent now
Yeah Night. BYOND is a dangerous place to be nowadays. Thats why you need heroes like me. To rise against the evil forces and protect those who are innocent.
I will help, however, I have absolutely no experience with pixeling isometric artwork. I'd rather do it the other way.

I apologize if my response wasn't what you wanted. I didn't exactly read into what your post was asking. I just saw, "I want ISOMETRIC" and saw your base.

I'd be willing to help, but like Malachi. I'm relatively new and have absolutely NO experience in isometric. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be willing to try.
