Some pages on BYOND can be dreadfully long and it's much of a convenience to have the top-bar's position be fixed.

I was wondering some time ago why the BYOND's Top-Bar for actions and the Search Box don't scroll along with the rest of the page.

Work around for the mean time:
ctrl+home (most people will know this) or if you have firefox, get the firegestures plugin. its wildly useful and amazing. You can set mouse movement macros to perform certain actions! :O e.g. hold Mouse2 and move mouse left then up. and it will go to top |
We used to have the topbar fixed, but more people hated that than didn't, so now it scrolls with the page. I suppose we could consider it as an option.
|
Going back to this:
Now that I'm on a laptop with no mouse, scrolling is a pain, so going up to the top of (some really long) pages is a pain with just a touchpad, so it's usually just easier for me to go to my byond bookmark and re-navigate from there. |
Having the topbar optionally fixed is something I would like to work out, but it is a slight technical challenge. It's still possible to see this reintroduced, though on the first iteration of the new site it was dropped for expediency.

Why not just add a floating bar on the bottom that moves down with the page that is linked to jump to the top of the page? solves scrolling back up and keeps the header fixed still.
The floating bar could also contain quicklinks to things like DM guide etc. |
Well personally I wouldn't use the feature & there are plenty of ways to get back to the top of the page instantly using shortcut keys & other methods even.
My screen is big so it wouldn't hurt to have it scroll down with my screen but in my opinion it would hurt the general layout & aesthetics of the website & due to the general ease to make it back to the top of the page make it so I wouldn't care for such an option to become available. |
See, my shortcut key is Shift+Space, but guess how much that helps when I'm reading a big forum post? None.
Ctrl+home is nice and all, but it doesn't work for me, seen as my home key requires me to use Fn, and then reach to two opposite sides of the keyboard. |
many users on laptops use the mouse pad and not a enternal mouse aswell to eaither a moving headerbar or a floating footerbar would be ideal.
Even on the pc scrolling sometimes can become a pain so i'd personaly love to have the headerbar move with the page or a footerbar that moves along the bottom |
