I couldn't help but notice there are Naruto-based rips (GOA rips specifically, from what I can see) making money off of the content via "subscriptions" and "donations," and I'm wondering: why is it being allowed, yet it's against the rules? Why not shut these games down?
I've already shot Viz an email regarding this stuff, but hopefully Byond will do something about it and Viz doesn't have to get involved.

Emailing Viz Media already sets them as an involved party. It's not allowed, but BYOND can't really take many actions to stop them.

And why can't they?

There's really no way we can stop it. Viz can handle it legally with the owners of the source/host and eventually they will get their way and those people will be fined. It's completely up to Viz/Whatever publisher to do these things. Though we have given them the tools, BYOND strictly prohibits monetary gain from other companies' IPs. Plagiarism is a big deal.
As BYOND members who care about the system and care about working hard for money, we can simply not play those games, and not buy into them. |
