Hey, would you be interested in making a game with me? I have got to say, you are a far better programmer than myself. I understand if you do not want to, but I think this could be a great learning experience for me, and, if you like Anime games, or Casual games, it could be a fun experience for you.
I would prefer you pick the Anime one, but if you aren't interested, then I also have a Mario game in production. |
Albro, I prefer to work alone and I don't have much interest in anime. But I do like to discuss game design and programming, so if you ever need help with something feel free to ask. If you're really annoying I'll just ignore you =)
By the way, I like your "Helpful Tips" posts on the BYOND Anime blog. Some people post helpful tips to brag about what they know but it seems like you're posting the tips because you really want people to take the advice and consider ways that they could improve their games. It's surprising, but it seems like a lot of people don't realize that they can make their game work however they want. Even if people don't implement your tips exactly, I'm sure those posts get people thinking about game design and that's not a bad thing. Keep up the good work! |
Thanks! I will! :P
Finding a good subject is harder than typing the blog up, in my opinion. |
Oh, and about the "post to brag; post to help" thing:
The reason I post to help and not to brag, I feel, is that I don't think I am good enough to brag yet. Plus, I am not a smug person, so even if I was a "super programmer", I wouldn't brag. But, back to the point, I feel I am not good enough to brag, but I feel I am good enough to help. I want to see BYOND grow, and get some more fun games. So, I am hoping these "Helpful Tips" will help inspire that dream. |
Hey, is there any way I could get into contact with you? I have a few questions about the platformer engine that you showed me, and I've been working with, but I'm not sure how I should go about. If you don't want to publicly state it, you can catch me at [email protected] for email.
Thanks in advance, and thanks again for the awesome library! |
@DivineTraveller: Depends on the type of question. If it's something that other people would benefit from seeing the answer I'd like it to be in a place that people can find it. If it's simple enough, commenting on the hub entry might make the most sense. If it's more of a general pixel movement question that isn't as closely related to the demo we could discuss it in comments on this blog post (which is linked to by the hub entry).
As a member I think I can set up a forum. That might be worthwhile, if not for the question you have it could certainly help for discussing other things. If your question involves a lot of code or is something you don't want people to see you can try catching me on the pager. I'm generally not available on the weekends though. |
I can't guarantee it's too simple, but it might be, since you know the system more than me. I think the forum might be the easiest way to handle it, if you're willing to set that up.

Ok, I think it's been set up: link

Hey, thanks for releasing the pixel_movement demo that you have. I learned a lot from it, and started making a game with it awhile ago. I am not sure of your opinion on things like Dragonball Z, but I made a game of it, and if you would like to stop in and see it I will be hosting it occasionally each day for a little while. And again, thanks for making the demo. |
@Koriami: I'll join if I see it online, but I probably won't see it.
I would like to see more diverse games on BYOND. I don't care what the theme of the game is (dragonball, bleach, naruto, traditional fantasy, etc.) I care more what the style of game is. I'd rather see a sidescrolling DBZ game than an orignal top-down RPG game because it does more to diversify BYOND. |
Just wanted to let you know about this.

Thanks for pointing that out Kaimana. Here's my response.
It doesn't look like you have the latest version. I've improved ramps a bit but there are still some problems. |
About to go to bed. I will check out your handy stuff tomorrow, but in the meantime:
If you don't have it in already, could you add in a text function to separate dimensions? For example, a variable like this: dimensions="[random_number]x[random_number2]" And separate the 2 random_numbers so they can be handled and manipulated? Thanks in advance! |
The Text.split proc can do this. Text.split("123x456","x") will return list("123","456").
I suppose I could change the Text.int proc to take a list also, and convert all entries in the list to integers. The Size object in my interface library would also handle this. It's specifically made for parsng the dimensions strings returned by winget. |

My friend and I LOOOOOOVE YOUR MINER GAME! Are you going to be completing it? I lost most of my motivation to work on it because of the tedious process of adding the different modes of play. I would like to add a lot more to the adventure mode and add another big mode of play. Consider you're the only person to express interest in the game lately, what do you like about it and what would you like to see added? |
