Proximity takes the essence of Strategy games -- battles for territories and armies -- and distils it down to a simple, easy to understand set of rules that makes the genre more accessible to Casual players. Also, the Tiles, once placed, can never be moved or removed, so the games do not take an exceedingly long time to complete. The premise is simple: You start off by selecting a colour, the game will need a minimum of 2 Players at present. You have 5 Tiles in your hand at any given time, each Tile with a number on it ranging from 1 to 20, representing the strength of that Tile. Each turn, you can place a Tile on any empty Plate on the isometric board. Once that Tile is placed, it affects any Tiles surrounding it. Tiles that belong to it's team are reinforced by 2 points, enemy Tiles with a smaller number than the Tile placed are captured, and enemy tiles with the same or higher numbers than the one placed have their strength reduced by 2 points. The rules are very simple, yet still allow for many interesting scenarios, much like Othello or Risk. There will also be a chance for you to get "Special" Tiles which will give you an added effect once placed on the board. Once the board is filled, the scores on all the tiles are added up and the team with the highest score is the winner! This is a sample of the game progression at present. There is still a lot of work to go into it, especially the interface. As you can see, with a Tile of 20 strength selected, once placed next to my own tile, it shows that it will have a positive effect, increasing that Tile's strength by 2. |
