...and I thought someone here could write about BYOND there.

I didn't know there was a BYOND subreddit.

I'm thinking that someone should write about the contests and featured games on reddit as well. Things seem to get some attention at /r/gamedev and /r/IndieGaming.

Probably as violent as GITTITD2BR. Game in the time it takes D4RK3 to build robots? How many robots? |
For the non-redditer like myself, might you link to whatever it is you did? I feel like I'm swimming in a sea of internet over there, and I'm terribly lost.

I found it (newest post in the gamedev subreddit)

Actually, I was talking about this:
http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/zpd32/ writing_the_engine_faq_the_subreddit_desperately/c68574h But yeah, I wrote that because I'm genuinely curious about what gamedev thinks we need to do to actually get some serious exposure. To be perfectly honest, I think the answer is to get a team together to port BYOND's client into Java so that we can kick off some single player development in Android/IOS as well as deploy a net player that isn't just flash. In all honesty, the move to Java would have been a lot smarter than the move to flash. Hell, I'd volunteer for said task if it were on Tom's list of things needing done. I'm a more than decent Java programmer. |
This is exactly the sort of thing that needs to happen to get BYOND some actual developers. /r/gamedev is a very compatible community.

This looks good, but I am a bit concerned with it mentioning that it supports Mac and Linux since you have to wrangle with WINE/dual booting/etc to actually get that to work. Blogs are also gone and have been for a while now.

If you're going that far, might as well do 5GITTITD2BR.
5 games in the time it takes Dan to be resurrected. Rules would be as follows: Each game must contain a story lasting upwards of four hours, unique features, a staff of less than 4 people, one of the five games must be deigned as a MMO(auction houses, forums for support/discussion, chat system, offline messaging system, ect), one of the five games must be single player, and one of the five games must be co-op orrientated. Also, you have to start a 401k, go to college for any/all feilds of game developement offered, and have worked on at least two AAA titles before entering. |
