Ok so I downloaded byond on my new/old laptop that is running windows 98. Whenever I try to open up the byond pager or any other byond program it gives me two error massages. The first box says Error starting program "The BYONDWIN.DLL file is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL:6880.

And the other one says C:/Program files/BYOND/bin/byond.exe A device attached to the system is not functioning.

When I try to join a game from www.byond.com itself I get the same Error Starting Program box and another different box saying "Cannot find the file (link) (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."

I have tried re-installing BYOND a bunch of times and also tried rebooting just as much. Please help.
I believe this is happening because BYOND no longer includes the MSVC and MFC dlls due to some incompatibilities with Windows 7 (and the fact that they appear to be almost all machines already). I guess we have a Win98 incompatibility that I'll have to look at.

Try this: download & install an older older build of BYOND, like http://www.byond.com/download/build/460.1052_byond.exe

This should include the files you need. Then download the latest from http://www.byond.com/download and install that over the top. Let me know if it works.
What had happened was I upgraded to a new service pack but the .dll files were not included and had to download them seperate along with other files needed. I downloaded them through the microsoft website and BYOND is running great. Thanks for the reply.
