One thing that has really been grinding my gears lately is how many people get defensive over a rip.For example i was on Naruto Kyubbis vengeance A very Good game although its a mega rip.and this one guy whose name will not be shown advertised for one of his games.
Well the response that he got was something along the lines of"Get of Fag" and "no Body Likes Rips" and as they were saying these things i thought to myself if you don't like rips then why are you on this game and i said it out-loud and one of the administrators got pissed and said that this is not a rip ....i laughed in his face and said rynio uzamaki would be ashamed...Thats all
Thanks For reading

If they don't show respect for the people who worked their ass off on it, why should people show the same respect for them? When you think it's okay to steal their games that they worked hard on and call it your own, you're putting a bulls eye on your forehead. It's expected to get someone coming onto your game and begin spamming, flaming etc.
The reason why people are on it isn't because they like the game. They came on the game for a specific reason, to cause problems for the dipshit who owns the garbage. |
One thing that really grinds my gears is when I have to highlight text to read it. As far as rips go, I honestly don't care. BYOND will always have rips and there's nothing we can do about that. Every game making community has hordes of games made off of leaked sources, or just crappy games in general. If you like the game and feel part of the community, by all means play. No one's stopping you. It's fun to you, so why would I want to take that away from you?

Thats is also True personaly i like the people on there and yes i get wat your saying but where trying to lower the percentage of rips on byond because it says Make Your Own gaming Experience Not Rip Your own Gaming experience get my Point |

Yoyo Games does a good job of this. You see all these high quality games everywhere (which we have on BYOND as well), but if you dig a little deeper you can find the trash. |

I didn't read any of the replies, so I might be out of line here and there.
Anyways... There is never a nobody who likes rips. Double negative, translate to "There is always someone who likes rips." Why? There are many potential reasons, but the most common is they were a fan of the original and the original (most likely) isn't updated anymore or is completely dead. So with a new name, new staff, they assume it'll be a whole rebirth, revision or revival (Lulz @ Common Rip Names being Rebirth, Revised and Revival). If you compare this to the real gaming industry, let's take Left4Dead (seems popular still so a majority can understand and relate) for example. Now, Left4Dead itself, is a good game that offers lots of game play. But, after some time Left4Dead gets... Dead. So there are developers/players that want to extend the life of their game play experiences in L4D. Most of them turn to "Mods" and "Map Packs" and other player-created content that significantly changes the game play one way or another but keeps the general ideal of the game the same. This is essentially the same as Rips on BYOND. Now, that's the "Positive" reasoning. The "Negative" reasoning is simply because, most of the time, some brat wants to be famous or gather "respect" so they go for the whole "Let's keep everything the same except for change the map a little bit, Copy+Paste some code/lib/demo for 'Extra Features' and change the 'Staff' as well." The Positive would be like turning Dragonball Zeta into Majin&Mystics. At the time, M&M was a big step forward from Zeta. The Negative would be like turning Dragonball Rebirth into Dragonball Dark Apocalypse. There's nothing special. There is no "Wow, they want to keep the same game play style players liked, but add a really cool twist". Either way, both tend to be very bad methods of game development. (Less for making a Mod rather than a Clone/Rip. Mostly because their intention is to KEEP the old game, but revive it instead of trashing it). Fan-Games are a huge factor. Especially Anime. The Anime majority of BYOND are very picky when it comes to defending/insulting Rips and/or Mods. This is mostly because there's too many of them that had NO progress whatsoever so the overall respect Anime gets is diminished. It's generally the same exact game, but different name. Just replace "Dragonball" with ANY Fan-Game series or whatnot and you'll have the same results for the most part. Ex; Resident Evil. Something to keep in mind though; You can NEVER turn a Rip into Original. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER! It's not possible and logically makes sense. The most you can do with a Rip is turn it into a Mod (See above explanation about Majin&Mystic) or trash/complete garbage. This counts for ANYTHING within the game. Icons, Code, Map, Interface, Sound, etc. Anything that isn't yours and wasn't obtained with the author's permission (Their actual personal permission, or "Free Resource" indicated) is ripped. Thus, no matter what. Even if you have "100% Original Code", if you use ripped graphics, your game is NOT original. The best way to make an original project, is to make fresh resources (Icons, Code, Sound, Map, Interface, etc.), that way there is no worries about ripped content. I could go on and on about this, but I have calculus homework that needs done before it's time to go to work. It's not bad, just a lot of limit problems and a few domain and range questions. Moral of this story: If you are opted to take Pre-Calc, TAKE IT. Oh and, there's probably a really corny yet inspiring quote I could end this with... |

Something I never got was if someone said:
"You could never change a rip to an original." Well, if you change literally every content in that game (before you say it's impossible, say you had a small source with literally 3 lines of coding.) You change everything from the sheer variables to the icons, names of the icons, names of the coding files...Everything from the old source is deleted and everything there was thus made by you. I'm confused, how is it still a rip or is this task just impossible? I was coding a pokemon game just a while ago so I can get a feel for mathematical equations. I wanted to fully understand the formulas and that's why I did it. So, I opened up DM and started from scratch. Shortly after I said: "I wanna see how these rips do it." I went to BYOND resources downloaded one of the sources and took a look at it. After looking through it I realized: "This is sh--...This should be changed to this, and this should be changed to this..." Eventually I found myself not writing over it, not adding to it, but deleting literally everything there except for the say function(didn't care about that.) And by everything I mean to all the codes to the icons and even the non-existant interface for the sake of testing some coding examples and formulas. The only thing that remained from the previous game was the title and the world/. If I were to host this, would it be a ripped/mod game? |
Changing each line of code goes against the whole point of starting with the source in the first place. It's still a rip anyway.

To be completely honest I started learning DM language through Jinketsu and altering it gave me a basic concept of how to do things. Afterwards, I found myself learning how to code without any source and learning more efficient ways to do things from the more commonly used buggier things. |

You will be met with vitriol for having a rip, because rip owners are thieves.
