I take it you haven't looked at BYOND Anime in oooooh a year or so. Cow RP parallels most of BYOND Anime's listings in gameplay. Which is terrible in itself, but doesn't put you on any kind of moral high-ground. The gameplay is about the same for a really really easy reason, most BYOND Anime listed games are free-form RPGs (RP games if you like) that are set in some environment. In the case of the games I'm thinking of, DBZ and Naruto's respective universes. In your case, a medieval dominion of cows.

Not once have I (or Rugg for that matter) mentioned the graphics of Cow RP, or compared our listings graphically to Cow RP. For whatever reason (I dread to think) you've got a real sense of insecurity about Cow RP's graphics, enough so to bring them up without us mentioning them. Personally, I'm not all that bothered by the graphics, provided the game's concept is good. This is where NEStalgia happens to work for me.

NEStalgia does beat all our current listings as an all round game, you're quite right. That's a good thing. That's why I prompted Android Data (as part of my staff position in BYOND RPG) to try and use the guild to promote the game.

My real concern with you is that you are 1. simply taking a pot-shot at an easy target instead of actually looking at the platform you are supporting (one in which as a game Cow RP is just as shallow and ill conceived as most of our RP listings) and 2. slating the good volunteer work done at BYOND Anime to enforce high submission standards (higher than BYOND RPG's at the moment) for Anime games and create an environment where games that are honestly superior to our current listing are recognised and supported properly.

To do such a thing would be as unfair as dismissing Cow RP purely for graphical reasons.

Rugg was doing you would call character profiling. It's no surprise, Rugg is snappy with most people. He picked a game on your favourites to demonstrate to the common reader where your preferences lie. If it's an attack on anything, it's on you.

Cow RP was brought up as a topic of discussion at that point, in which you decided in response to Rugg's personal comment (attack, if you like) to drag in the whole of a guild of 300+ members. As a respresentative of that guild, I felt I should point out the irony in someone holding up an ill-conceived free-form RP over others, simply because of what guild it is listed in.

Quite right, it means just as it is. I do not for the life of me understand the gameplay mechanics of Cow RP, the backdrop and "story" (it's a free-form RP, it's more setting than story) and the selling point of the game. The reason I don't understand this is ... a cow?

With Hedgerow Hall the animal setting was probably about as contrived as Cow RP, BUT the animal setting provided game mechanics. The various species were given affinity to particular attributes, species language was introduced, etc etc. It was a little wacky, but you stick with it for 5 minutes or so and you realise there is a point to them being animals, it contributes something to how the game plays. With Cow RP, I could substitute the icons for the sexiest bovines you've ever seen, and the game would still make no sense to me. Why a cow? What's the unique game concept aspect about that? I could replace the cows with snakes and the game would still essentially function as it does currently. So obviously it's not the graphics, I wouldn't understand Snake RP either. That right there is my issue, and what my comment was directed at. I followed this up in fact:

So while I can perhaps give you the benefit of the doubt you mis-understanding my initial comment, it seems pretty plain to me what my main gripe with Cow RP is. You've obviously spent a long time having to be defensive about the graphics, in order to assume that's my issue.

And just for completeness, Rugg was commenting on you, the game was an example of your character. Much like you'd chosen to point out Rugg's character first with "Go back to BYOND Anime". Let's not play victim here.

Originality has some merit, yes. But the fact it's an original "not a rip" as Silk would put it doesn't make it the best thing since sliced bread. Being a good game, with well considered and enjoyable gameplay (this depends o the person, I'll acknowledge), along with a fitting visual style, is what makes a game worthy of the title "good".

"Go back to BYOND Anime". See that there, that is an "attack". You're suggesting Rugg came from some insular community with no regard for what's happening elsewhere, and he's sticking his nose in.

Ruggs first comment is in response to Silk's blog post, you don't even get a mention. He responded because Silk is intentionally pillorying Anime games in the general case, and named BYOND Anime in his title.

Silk has done a very clever thing by this post. He's 1. given more exposure to his game through his screenshots 2. picked an emotive topic (you certainly feel strongly about it, and so does Rugg) so that he gets the maximum amount of views as possible and 3. kind of thrown down the gauntlet to BYOND Anime's community of developers to step up their game. "This shitstorm" only serves to further his purposes, which I'm quite fine with.

SIGH. Bloody hell Silk, you got the damn tabs wrong! For starters, you only have one tab! What the hell man!? All the really fantastic games have at least five! What the hell are you thinking?

Also! Your store is missing a "Cancel" option under the "Light Axe" item! Some days I just get the impression you don't care about your games at all. =(

You never said anything about making the general systems of the game overcomplicated and/or poorly programmed. If you have a single datum making your life generally easier by putting forth a small amount of concentration to learn about the concept, I'll never respect you again.

Now get over to the developer forms and start asking questions covered in the guide and/or user submitted tutorials to Dream Maker.

(On the serious note: I'm not so much referring to BYOND Anime itself as I am emphasising the terrible way a lot of people do things (including games within the other guilds, such as BYOND RPG) and the huge amount of questions re-asked on the developer forums from people who just seem to refuse to read the reference material.)
