We'll still be judging balance and making the necessary adjustments post-release. That said, it's a fact that NEStalgia has undergone more pre-release balance testing than any other game in the history of BYOND ;)

I wouldn't be too sure about that. It's not like you can compare fairly.
But I have hosted games in the past for 3-4 months with no purpose other than testing, balancing and fixing stuff.

But still. I'm willing to bet the game is nowhere near as balanced as you think it is. It never is.
Cool. Spread the word - the more people the better.

Release will be tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM PST.
Can't wait to review this game a new asshole.

You know, how perfect this game is and such.

Good. I look forward to any review that is honest.

Anyone who posts a Naruto GOA style fanboy review of NEStalgia that has no bearing in reality will only serve to discredit themselves. On the flip side, anyone who writes up an attack review simply because they have problems with me personally will also just be making themselves look bad.
I've never reviewed Naruto GOA so I don't really care.

If this game is anything less than Final Fantasy Online then I'm calling shenanigans on your claims.

I think a lot of people will to be honest.

The more a game is hyped up, the higher peoples standards raise. If it does not meet those standards (which could be impossibly high) people will be disappointed.

There is no denying NEStalgia has been hyped up a lot (especially over the past week). So lets hope it meets those standards.

All I've ever done is shown pictures, described how it works, and given specific examples of what I'm excited about.

There are a lot of insecure people on BYOND who recoil at the thought of me getting praise for something. Keep in mind, all of the praise I've received thus far has been given for what I've shown, not the occasional Marketing 101 fluff.

If you want to complain about the NEStalgia hype, keep a couple things in mind. First of all, I'm incredibly good at promoting stuff because that is literally what I get paid to do. I used to come up with entire Ad Campaigns for companies - now I come up with movie ideas and pitch them to studios. Second, (and most importantly), I won't be able to hear your complaints about how hyped up this game is tomorrow over the sound of "payment received" notifications hitting my inbox.
You just hyped up the game again.
Anyway, I wasn't complaining, I was just stating, the higher you are, the further you have to fall. You should be careful.

Also, there is something that has been annoying me for a while now with the character dye screenshots.
This probably isn't the place to post this, but the shadows you're using for the cliffs are all wrong.

Both sides of the cliff have shadows, which suggests the sun is directly above those cliffs.
But the shadow on the boulders is slightly at an angle, suggesting the light source is to the left.

Also, the shadows on the cliffs are wrong.
Would be easier if I explained with a picture.

The shadows should really look something like what the yellow. The current angle of the shadow suggests the light source is coming directly from the left and not from above (but also directly from the right for the opposite side).

Also, the large cliff strangely has a small shadow, while the small cliff strangely has a large shadow.

Buildings are also lacking shadows. Looks kind of strange when everything else has shadows.

I always notice these sort of things, and they annoy me.

the average gamer isnt going to care where the light source is lol or where the shadow is
I'm subscribing now!

I'm an average gamer, and I noticed and care.
Also, it is these little details that can make a game really shine.
Thanks for the post TMM. To be honest, I know that the lighting isn't consistent. I made it that way because it looks better to me, and because it gives the game some charm. Lighting sources and perspective were pretty inconsistent across the board in old NES games.
silk can we multi key? O_O?

Nope. I want to encourage partying, and I want to make PvP interesting - especially since we have huge tournaments planned.

That said, the game is accommodating to solo players, although you'll have a tougher time. Most bosses will require groups.
what about people on the same computers? my cousins both use the same ip address?

The multi-key limit is based upon computer_id, not IP Address. Players on the same network will be fine, but you won't be able to share a computer (not that that would be much fun anyway).
How about this, the planet has an odd ellipse to it instead of the/a one more common to Earth. Beyond which this world has a sun and a sub sun. The primary shadows come from one, and the second from the other. They move in a consistent gravitational axis that creates the variation you see, and while it may seem alien to you it is in fact quite correct for the planet at which you are now looking.
