First off, Maximus_Alex2003, I apologize for including your name when I quoted your post. I wanted to refute your claim by providing general information [information to the general public], but I can see where the formatting I intended for readability could be seen as aggressive.

The administrators of Facebook pages can indeed make it so that fans can't post their walls. However, that won't happen because activity makes products look more appealing. More importantly, it's unnecessary.

What I was trying to point out is that share links are completely unrelated to BYOND's Facebook page. There's no need to worry about share links posting anything on BYOND's wall or the wall of whoever created the content the share link was on. As explained in my post, that's not how they work. =)

As for rules about posting on BYOND's Facebook wall, I'm guessing they're roughly the same as on BYOND's main site. Administrators can remove posts from walls if there's a problem. (Just keep in mind that, as on the main site, administrators are volunteers who may need some time to act.)

That said, wall posts made by fans don't get relayed to other fans anyway. They eventually scroll down to where nobody reads. Friends of the poster might get an initial activity notice, but it won't be in the eyes of the general public.

PS: May I suggest widening your text box to a percentage value, Bootyboy? =)

Ah okay, because I'm familiar with the fact that the owner of the Facebook pager, has the powers to moderate themselves without the Admins of Facebook. I forget now what my Facebook settings are set to, but there's certain people who I have added that actually won't receive any info about me or activity but are still connected to my page because of the settings I made.

Does the Share To Facebook go straight to their Wall or is it to BYOND's Wall or both or something different?

Just their wall.

It goes to the clicker's wall.
What's posted in their wall?
Like, I think there needs to be a picture or example in the post Lummox Jr made.

That's pretty much it. It gets posted on my wall only and pretty much my friends are the only ones who will see this.
This is one of the things I don't like about BYOND.
How seemingly everything I do has to be for the greater good of BYOND.

What sort of totalitarianism rules are you going to try and force on people next?

Also, I do not mind people linking to my posts on Facebook. Provided they compensate me for it.

I post things on BYOND, and not Facebook for a reason. If you wish to distrubute my works on Facebook then I expect payment for it. 5c to $1 is an acceptable payment depending on quality/quantity of content.
If you do not abide by this, I am within my legal rights to request that Facebook take down any and all content of mine which you have shared on Facebook.

BYOND may own the website, but they do not own the rights to the words I type. (Just like you may own a book, but not the rights to the story inside of that book)

Let us know how that goes.

Is a man not entitled to the words in his blog?

NO! Says Tom, it belongs to the greater good!
NO! Says Lummox JR, it belongs to facebook!
NO! Says Bootyboy, it belongs to no one!

Also, if you wish to get technical.
Facebook makes it very easy to have your content that someone else has posted removed.
They even have a nice page set up for it, which I have used before.

The hardest part is actually finding out who has used your content.

Like I said, let us know how it goes. Suppressing information you yourself put into public view is an interesting area.

Huh? Almost everything we do gives us no financial benefit or "greater good". This is why we are a struggling business!

All this feature is is an easy way of making a link to put on YOUR facebook page, to be seen by YOUR friends. It's the same thing as cutting & pasting the URL at the top and posting it on YOUR wall, except it is a little easier and includes some pretty pictures.

Our hope is that some of you have friends who you'd like to get into BYOND, and this will give you a way to direct them to the site through some interesting content... if you want to do so. If you don't, or are embarrassed by the site, then just don't use the link!

I'm not going to ban anyone, but I wish people complaining about this (or any other money grubbing feature we provide) would at least do their research before getting all huffy.

It's not necessarily you, or any of the BYOND staff.
But sometimes it feels like certain people are trying to press gang me (and others) into doing things we may not want to.

This entire blog post is an example.

BxS0ldi3R provided screen shots, but you can see exactly what it will look like by simply clicking the link yourself. It uses a Javscript popup, as seen in his first screenshot, where you'll note that you are given the opportunity to cancel if you change your mind. Nothing gets posted to Facebook unless you click "Publish."

Maximus_Alex2003 wrote:
I don't want them posting anywhere, "Yeah hey I shared this Blog post on my Maximus_Alex2003 key so it only proves I'm him! So can you give me money please?"

When implementing this, I made sure there is a distinction between clicking the share link on your own blog post vs. clicking it on someone else's post. When you click the link for someone else's blog post, the title is "Their Name: Post Title" and the summary is "Their Name writes: Summary..." This language should hopefully imply that it's someone else's blog post that you're sharing on Facebook. If you click the link on your own blog post, you just get "Post Title" and "Summary..." implying that you're sharing your own post.

So the bottom line is that a claim such as the above can't be made using this system, because it will be clear that the person is not the original author of the posts (you).

Unfortunately this is just human nature. Ever follow politics? ;)
Ah okay.
I was just wondering, because the official blog post doesn't quite cover some things which makes it a tad bit vague.
So, after looking into it and looking at the posts and etc., I decided to join.

I guess I should have mentioned that a bit earlier.
I definitely disagree with this, I see no reason to punish people for not wanting to interact with Facebook. Not to mention it creates extra work for the moderators where there doesn't need to be extra work.

It's not going to hurt anything more than it was not having them in the first place.
Face it man, It's you vs the whole BYOND community.

Such an action would hurt BYOND more than "Encourage it's growth" seeing as people would likely begin to protest by not purchasing / renewing a membership, Not advertising BYOND, and in a stretch, leave BYOND in it's entirety.

Besides, BYOND did great without the FB sharing, and adding it still improves, but if some people such as myself disable it, then it would be the same as before the update.

And don't give me any "That's preventing BYOND's growth" shit either. Some people such as yourself and many others have it enabled which can still be used to spread word of BYOND. And isn't like nobody is joining the FB group.

Seriously. Think things out BEFORE you post your ideas.

In my honest opinion, the "Share on Facebook" button is pretty cool. It's a decent way for BYOND to make money. I haven't seen a good enough reason not to have them there. If people don't like Facebook, then don't click the button, simple as that. This shouldn't really be a big issue, people need get over it.
