Right, so I finally got this game to run, and despite being below the minimum specifications for the game (graphics card wise), it still runs fairly decent when both my brother and I play it, provided no one is doing anything else even remotely associated with the internet. So that's a bonus. Though it does die quickly if there's a lot of action. My brother and I lagged through one entire mission while all the other players in the field just did the work (which I've noticed a few users doing, lazy buggers).

I do have a few gripes though. I dislike the starter starship. And by the looks of it, it's going to take me a fair while to finally get into one I actually want. Which would be the games version of the Intrepid.

Of course, there are still bugs in the game, as it's only what, three weeks old? I noticed a lot of people complaining about the bugs on the Steam forums. I've come to the conclusion they're whiny gits. I was never impacted by any annoying bugs, short of things like the trade option being available in space, though the window not opening. And the game automatically launching action windows during combat. Which is especially irritating.

Though I'm quite a big fan of this. That is just cool. ;)

For anyone wondering, John Shaft, captain of the USS Galactica is my brother. You know the theory that you should play female characters in MMOs etc etc, well his theory is to play a muscled black guy. I don't know what the theory is behind it, but he sticks to it.

One comment on the Steam forums that has me going "wtf mate? O.o" is the theory that this game is the most single player MMO he's ever come across. My brother and I were having massive fun running missions together, and bartering with each other for the materials we acquired from salvaging. It owned.

All in all, I'll probably continue to invest time in the game. I'm enjoying it a fair bit, and it takes away copious amounts of time I have. At least until the new Starwars MMO is out and I have a computer that can run it.

The best part is clearly is it's unnecessary to return to where you got your mission to claim your prize. None of that tedious wandering back and forth to claim prized. That was fantastic!

(For the record, I'm Lieutenant Tiberath, captain of the USS Tibbius. PM me if you see me flying around. Though I can't promise I'll notice.)
Something about that latest patch has really cleaned up the interface, it doesn't look nearly as bulky as it used to. I like it.

... Oh, yeah, since my screen shot, I've acquired all my bridge officers and advanced a rank. It's going to take me forever to get a decent ship. =(

I want my -whatever-the-intrepid-class-became =( Long range science vessels for the win.
All these people I know showing up in Star Trek Online is tempting me to retract my ticket requesting a refund of my lifetime subscription to the game.

Granted, I do have some fairly good reasons to stay the course in that regard:

* Server stability issues.
* Decent enough game, but it doesn't leverage much MMORPG appeal.
* The fact that I haven't played the game for a couple weeks.

Ah, perhaps I'm just emerged in some kind of procrastinator's identity crisis.
I think playing it with friends/family makes it incredibly fun. I know flying around with my brother and running instances with him was a lot more fun than doing it on my own.
I'll be up front. I got the game becuase I saw the screen shots. I was like ' Wow I need to try this!' and guess what... I got it :L. I don't have much to compare it to because I don't play many online games at all.
EDIT: Tibby when does your brother and yourself play? I wana tag along. Oh I'm I'm Lieutenant Adam J. Falcon, captain of the USS Falconer
I've been on from 9 hours ago to half an hour ago (as the server is down for maintenance).

You're welcome to tag along if you're absolutely desperate, but I have the chat window closed at all times and my brother and I either stick with each other, or we'll go our own ways for undetermined reasons (we generally only cruise together if we need help on a mission).

I'll load the game into Steam (as a non-steam game) and play it through Steam that way, giving people a method to communicate with me.

Bare in mind, both me and my brother are Lieutenants ~7 - 9. So we'll be doing those kinds of missions, and I can't promise I'll protect you. ;) Presently I'm in the Neutral Zone fighting Borg and Klingons. That's a really fun mission, I wont be content until I've destroyed a cube, and I came sooooooo close to.

I think it'd be a bit early to ask for a refund. Whatever the issues are, you have to take into account the game only being three weeks old. As a developer, you should know that no matter how well you beta test something, the real bugs will be found when people start playing your game for keeps. Beta testers approach the game from a testers point of view, test things, see if they work and move on. Players approach the game with a "wtf" attitude and do things you wouldn't normally expect.

The server stability issues will be taken care of in due course. Once the game has been stress tested with real players and whatnot.

The game itself I don't really count as an MMO. I count it more as a space sim cross 3rd person shooter.

Either way, I'm having massive fun with it. Even if the server going offline for two hours every day I've been playing it to apply new patches is getting a bit annoying. I'm dealing with it, just gives me time to play with my new graphics tablet.
I do assume that they'll patch out most of the problems with the game, I think it's mostly the lacking-MMORPG-appeal aspect that bothers me about having dumped 240 extra dollars on it.

$50, no problem. $15/mo on top of that, I could grudgingly go along with that to humor them and then stop paying when I'm good and bored. $240... well, that was a definite overreaction to my conviction it's not worth $15/mo so preferring to pay it all up front. :P

It doesn't look like I really have a choice, actually. Their support is so badly backlogged that they haven't been able to reach my ticket for 3 or 4 days now. I went ahead and canceled the ticket just now out of sympathy for their plight.

Actually, I think they only have to do one thing to make me feel okay with my purchase: add a compellingly MMORPG-ish end game.
Tibby whats your Game ID Tag or whatever. So I may know when your online.
I'm Adam J .Facon@Adam-Falcon if that dosen't work Its Adam J. Falcon@Adam-Falcon
Tiberath@Tiberath

Is it that hard to guess? ;)

I'm fairly sure I've seen a Captain Adam-Falcon in my travels. <.<
