After reading about the exe feature, I saw the part about BYOND taking 25% of profits. While I'm completely okay with this as BYOND deserves the money, I just want to know exactly where this 25% comes from. Are they just taking 25% per transaction, or are they using a different method?
We take 25% per transaction, but then have to pay the transaction fees of about 5% so we're making about 20% of sales. Unfortunately, as of now this is not very much money, but we're hoping some games can be profitable enough for this to be mutually beneficial.
Okay thanks for the clarification. I really hope you guys can get something out of this, it's well deserved.

BYOND needs more advertising. I only found out about BYOND via searching for anime games ages ago.

That used to be the [bee's knees] back then. I forgot the name of the game, but I Remember shitload of people paying $20-$100 just for outfits to look cool on a penguin flash game...
Yeah I honestly don't see how those retarded browser games survive.
Yea I remember that it was club penguin. No idea how that game makes money. I, like many, found byond years ago because I was looking for a naruto game. I guess that why there are so many in the byond community that play those anime based games. Anyway I try to spread this site to my friends. Maybe if I finished something decent I could at least get them on board. Well I'm working on it. I'm thankful for this site, and I'm glad that despite this not being the most profitable endeavour (possibly the opposite) it's still up and running.
Considering BYOND covers the paypal deduction in their %, and all that they give us I think it's more than fair; I just hope more developers start making money and thus assist BYOND in making more money soon.

Now, with my on topic part done it's on to the semi off topic! I've seen some cool browser games, but a penguin game? really? Geeze. Some games, browser or not, are just weird or stupid. Also, some people just have a bad habit of wasting a lot of money, it's crazy.

Hm, I believe I joined BYOND in a rather common way too. A friend invited me because, at the time, we were both very into Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy: The Hunting Grounds was doing pretty well on here and caught his attention.

I ended up not caring for it, but I started having some eh stuff going on with life, and before I knew it BYOND was my means of relieving stress and/or hanging out with a few fun people.
I remember when I first joined BYOND, it was because I was into Dragonball Z games (during the era when Zeta Rips were everywhere) and happened to come across a link for Dragonball Zeta in one of the DBZ mod forums (either it was Earth's Special Forces for Half-Life or Saviour of Strength when it was still a Quake 3 mod). This was years before the Funimation incident of course. However, I did get into other games too since I thought they were fascinating and even fun. I even played Seika in my earlier days (years before it was changed to Teridal).

I originally didn't plan on making any project in DM since I was aiming to learn C++ (already had some experience from BASIC, another programming language). However, I got interested in trying out game ideas while using DM and decided to learn it. Unlike others who would learn from ripped sources, I actually went through the learning process from tutorials and even demo sources. Libraries can also be good for learning how to program things yourself and not just use them in your projects.

Lately, I been trying to construct C++ projects in hopes to achieve standalone status. If I can make a profitable project, some of the profits may go towards BYOND itself to keep it alive. This is profits from a standalone C++ project I may end up doing in the near future.
I'm I the only one who came to BYOND to learn game making?
I joined for the same reasons as Bandock, isn't that just awful? Go to places like reddit.com/r/gamedev and nobody ever talks about BYOND, it isn't really known as a game making platform very well, it needs to get the brand out there.

i came to learn how to make games 2 :D
I was absolutely obsessed with the idea of making my own game when I joined BYOND. BYOND marketed itself to me as the place to go for a newbie developer just trying to do what he really wants to do at the time, put those creative thoughts into action. I remember being absolutely in utter shock and awe as I watched a red 32x32 block move around a black background. All I did was logged in and made my icon the block. Simple code, but I had never done anything like that before! It was pure magic. BYOND just needs to continually create more interest in more experienced developers. Newbie developers may become good ones, but it takes a couple years before they're competent enough to make a decent game, at least in my case. Especially when it's nothing more than a hobby.
We should be smart and advertise BYOND on sites like 9gag. All we need is to get it trending, and we'd get atleast 50 new members. Costs $0.0000000000000000000000001.
I was looking for DBZ games ( Heroes United + Before FUNimation came along ).
Well funimation keeps the fun for demselves T__T
What about the website advertising, five thousand people seeing what I assume are 1 cent ads all the time could amount to a lot of money.

@ post below

Well I don't disable the ads, so there.

5,000 people online doesn't equal out to 5,000 people viewing and pressing on advertisements. 2/3rds of that are probably just online on their pagers, and not viewing the website itself. Not to mention members being able to disable ads(to an extent).
