The review shown here is bias and is not a review but merely a personal attack. Therefore i decided to give you all a proper review with no lies. Just complete, opinionated and unbiased review. Each section i will rate out of 10, 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. So let's review the BYOND game. "Stargate Online"
First we will look at the idea. Being that it is an MMO base Stargate game. Surprisingly good where it counts with variation and race. What brings this down is the lack of customization as well as what can be done. 3 different hair styles to choose form as well as low numbered overlays to choose from. The only thing that seems truly customizable is the race and the colour of your hair. Overall though i would rate it 4/10 in customizable characters.
Next we review the game mechanics itself. Now this i can say i am impressed with. You have the Stargate, requiring you to put in a code to go to another planet. The combat system where you can use different weapons as well as other things such as explosives and cloaks to make fighting more strategic. The downside though is it seems to simple and not much else to offer. But once again i can't help but love it's simplicity as well as being somewhat a guilty pleasure that something so simple can be hard. Score for the mechanics of the game. 8/10
We look to the graphics and look of SGO now. Everything in the game was iconned from scratch and the game does look fantastic. Every little detail can impress. Although you do see some things that might turn you off you'll definitely find something good to look at. As well as a sleek looking interface i would score the graphics at a 10/10.
Next we cover the staff. Now this is harder to review because there are good as well as bad. The staff are most of the time helpful, hard at work and trying to do what they can for the players. Unfortunately there are problems where some get too involved or use their verbs for other reasons. This part of the review opinions will be mixed with either good opinions and thought or bad. For me up to now weighing out both sides i would give the staff a 7/10.
Overall this is a pretty good game. Its fun, the people are nice most of the time and it's a good experience. It's definitely worth taking a few hours of your day trying out. It's not for everyone, in fact mostly for the fans but if you enjoy this kind of game you won't be disappointed. Overall score for SGO i would give it 8/10

I'm saying it is a fairly enjoyable game with a few things that can be improved on. My review is not designed to be specific about one person or directed to a set group of audience. This is a general review about the game in my opinion where i think i explained and pointed both sides out fairly and professionally. But i do appreciate your opinion Jittai. -edit- and back to the point of me being a staff. This is also a way for me to analyze what can be improved on SGO to make it better. So any opinions about the review and SGO will be appreciated as long as it is about the game. |
Though he is staff I have to agree he is not as biased. Though on Icons as they are currently I would give more of a 6/10 as there are many many that need some updating.
Staff lately more of a 5/10 as the trainees 3/4 did not make it and the 4th still in training. Hope the next batch prove more capable. Dev team on the ohter hand a 8/10 as they really are hard at work each day trying to fix long existing bugs and improve the quality of the game. For the most part the game is fun and friendly, but as with everything there are always excptions. We try to keep them from being to bad. Yes I am staff, but I also know where the faults in the game lie and not going to rave about things that are not yet upto the quality I hope the game to reach soon. I try not to be biased but I am human. |
Well, In my opinion SGO lacks a lot of substance and immersion - Mav wrote referring to the core systems of 'Gates' and 'Combat' "The downside though is it seems to simple and not much else to offer." - which I would of focused more on, as that's a large issue. A game with nothing to really do is just a graphical chat room. And although you can have fun occasionally you do get bored fast of what's offered on SGO. - My suggestion would be to focus more on Action or RolePlay; add features to support that.
The icons are nice, but they are also on public libraries (some from RPG Maker), while the ownership of the graphics shouldn't effect game play, the fact you see that style of icon-ing (maybe even those icons) everywhere does. Now to the more controversial topic, staff - yes there are 'good' ones and 'bad' ones, but you left out a key factor - a lot of the community doesn't respect/like the staff. This leads to tension. Anyway, with whats in SGO as of now, it would get a pretty good score (if it were a NEW game), but the fact is its been the same, if not less since past updates, ('Less' referring to the fact a lot of features were removed) leaving only empty planets to "explore". However, SGO has a new 'caretaker' and from what I understand other developers - which shows an attempt at developing. But lets be cynically honest, with it's history, raped source, shattered community, constant rips, and with the normal mistakes along the way, this 'attempt at developing' isn't getting a running start - if anything its getting a rolled-in-a-carpet-choking-on-its-own-vomit-after-a-wild-par ty-with-a-clown-start. I probably should of written my own review but I'm not that bored. And yes I do still login if anyone is wondering. |
I like your comments Jittia, and we are indeed working on more indepth game play. A compleate overhaul of skills is in the works, as well as new icons to replace alot of the public ones in current use. As you well know this all takes time. Thanks for your review, it was well written.
