So, after a while of playing around, learning how to work telnet (it's my first time with telnet in DM), I managed to get telnet and Artemis to work perfectly. It's not exactly the most pleasant, in my opinion, but it's perfect for what it does, and really, without a GUI, you can't do it many other ways.

Telnet users are now near-replicas of actual users in the Artemis client - minus a GUI. The best part -- you don't need to go "say hi" or "> hi", you just type, and it does things. Backspace characters also don't show up, like I remember they did in Chatters.

This screenshot is a sample in telnet.

The following three screenshots correspond to the one above.

(I spammed myself a bit too see if my changes worked, turns out, they did)

I cheated, but I can also be around here on my blackberry, via MidpSSH. This means the iPhone users are also supported.

Next up: Java version of the Artemis client.

PS: If anyone wants to join via telnet, it's preferred you connect to wow.gdiracing.com:5504, instead of the publicized server, since it hosts the latest version of the telnet integration. The publicized server's telnet functionality is much lesser currently.

PSS: RIM sucks for actually using their development tools, so I probably won't ever fully port it to BlackBerry, but midpssh looks good enough, I don't see why I'd need to.

PSSS: Man, I'm a chatterbox.
Whatever server the users are in is effectively the main server. You just told people to join the development server so that the 'main server' wouldn't go down, effectively telling people to join the server that goes down.

If anything, people should join the main server and you should only push important updates. Who publicizes a dev server?

Right, I said if they wanted to see what the telnet functionality is like, they'd be best off joining the development server, to test it. I agree the sentence was badly worded, however. In reality, they're all dev/main servers, because of how Artemis works, but that isn't really the point.

I suppose I'll clear that up.
Should be noted that WebChatters works with this too...you know, if WebChatters were still around.
Excellent point, Nadrew- thanks for adding!
DT. Get a life. Stop chatting with yourself.
