Obama's presidency is such a freaking disaster that MA just elected a Republican senator to Ted Kennedy's former seat. Snap.
That's right, one of the most liberal states in the union just replaced the most liberal member of the senate with a Republican.
Down goes health care 'reform'. Down goes the progressives' complete strangle-hold on our government. If Obama and the progressives are stupid enough to keep acting like everyone who disagrees with them is a radical, expect 2010 to be a bloodbath come November.
Corrupt, out of touch Washington politicians (be they Democrat or Republican) are hereby on notice. Stop the out of control spending and the wild expansion of government, or else the people of this country will make you stop.

My 13-14 year old cousin who lives in MA was standing outside for 4 hours today advertising someone named Scott Brown

Thank God. I don't even care about anything else. This election meant everything to me. My dad's an MD, more specifically an oral surgeon. Both he and I know how much this healthcare reform would destroy the country.

Finally. I knew Obama's demise would come slowly but surely. Wait, what? He still gets to serve out his four years, you know. There's plenty of time for him to turn things around (well, not when you convert it into crotchety old-man time) At least there's a younger person in the senate now. |

Keep your fingers crossed on health care. The shenanigans aren't over yet. Obama and Pelosi have both said they'll double down. The real question is whether the rest of the House or the Senate will follow them off that cliff.

I'm Canadian.
My country is obviously in the shitter because we have universal healthcare. Woe is me. |

Seems to me that to have any merit to that comment, Zaole, you'd have to have some kind of valid criticism to anything he said.

Ironically, Zaole, the attitude that anyone who opposes this health care bill is ignorant/stupid is exactly the type of BS that the people of MA rejected. If you want to win a debate in this country, you'd better be prepared to entertain opposing viewpoints and respond to them intellectually. |

The extra debt incurred just getting started would be huge, to say nothing of how the program would balloon out of control in the future (like Medicare did, like Social Security did). It's modeled after Medicare which is a poorly designed program we already can't afford. It adds taxes we can't afford and debt we can't afford, and forcing people to buy health insurance who don't want it will only suck that money out of the economy. This kind of spending spree might be vaguely justifiable if it was better designed and if we were now and for the indefinite future facing an extremely prosperous economy, but neither one of those is true. People say "destroy the country" as shorthand for all this because explaining basic economics and engineering principles (see also "Law of unintended consequences") to those who choose not to think about them is futile. |
The irony in all of this is that MA has a statewide health care plan, so most of the residents probably didn't really care too much about it (or believed that the states could create their own health care plans).

Did I not say that my father was an Oral Surgeon? My mother was also a nurse. They would certainly know more about how this bill would affect the country than you, Zaole. They've been through a lot dealing with the healthcare world. They aren't even basing this on conservative values, just pure logic and on how the other times doctors gave up their rights has affected the healthcare world for the worse.

Did I not say [...] Oral lol. But seriously, there are doctors on both sides. Just because your parents are doctors and believe it to be bad doesn't mean they are right. I don't care what they are basing it on. There are lots of people that believe they know how things like Universal Health Care would destroy the nation and there are other people that believe it would somehow magically bring Micheal Jackson back to life. Point being, nobody really knows for sure and the best evidence there is, is to look at other countries that have implemented similar systems. Shut up already, you whiny baby. |
