Howdy folks,

So, I'm pretty new to this whole blogging thing, but it appears to be a fairly good way to get the word out about games that are in progress. Before I begin it should be noted that while I enjoy working on this game, I try and hold back expectations that I'll ever finish it. Whenever I expect completion, it just never seems to happen. A shame. However, this one's progressing fairly well (seeing as I've entirely ditched the search for pixel artists) and so I felt it was time to work on pre-release publicity. On to it now!

The Beginning

You begin your adventure the same as all others, living out another day in your boring life. You wake up, leave your home, talk to some people, get educated on how to do the most elementary of tasks (intro tutorials are a bit of a pain, but hey), and then move on to the library! As you look around you notice the disparaging lack of material on the shelves, due of course to the massive loss of information caused by the war now decades past. Such a waste.

Abruptly you are interrupted in your perusing by a rather insistent older man in the oddest of garments. He tells you that there's something you simply must see, teasing you with a way to find out about the the past lost from the library for all time. You do what any curious man (or woman) would do and follow him up the stairs and into a single room, evidently left over from ages past and never removed from the base structure. As you move closer to the man, ready to demand the information he'd promised, you're suddenly locked in place. The world warps around you, bright flashes halting your vision and emptying your mind, ripping from it any possibility of coherent thought.

After what seems an eternity you feel your vision clearing, finding yourself surrounded by elderly robed men and a substantial guard. You're obviously in the same room and the man who beckoned you to it is still there - but younger. Clearing his throat he yells grandly, "Welcome to Legacy!"

(I'm tempted to explain what precisely Legacy is in this context, but I'm a little scared that it'll remove too much from the storyline. I've already given away what I intend to release as a teaser to the game. It should be noted however that this entire sequence of events is essentially single-player, with no outside involvement until after all the tutorials and such are complete.)

Gameplay

Legacy is a turn-based RPG in which you are allowed a party of four, including yourself, and a maximum friend party of three. (Meaning, you and two of your friends can bring each of your party of four to fight together.) Movement is tile-based, and orientation of your fighters will matter.

Hopefully, most of what you do will be fairly self-explanatory, and anything which isn't (and some of which is) will be explained during the introductory tutorial. I'm still working out the details on things such as how I want loot to work, but it seems to be coming together rather nicely.

As for secondary systems, such as crafting, I've yet to decide how much I want to delve into things such as that. There will certainly be questing, since it wouldn't be a complete RPG without it, but most of those systems can be completed after I finish the base game.

Graphics

As you can probably tell all of the icons are taken from RPG Maker XP, with some small (VERY SMALL) add-ins from myself. I understand some of you may not like this because it's drastically overdone and I must say - I simply don't care. The fact of the matter is, it allows me to work on a game I enjoy looking at without having to try looking for another team member.

There is one outfit for each job class. I haven't decided yet if I want to attempt to add dyes for those outfits (it would be a time-intensive endeavor), but I know for a fact that I will not have outfits which depend on what specific armor you have equipped. Hairstyles are able to be worn with any hair, but as of now (although this will likely change), they can not have their color changed either.

Sounds

When I started this project I had decided not to use any sound effects as an attempt to keep the RSC file size small. Eventually, however, I added one sound effect. It amused me greatly - so I continued on to add back ground music and sound effects to various abilities. Lots of fun. So yes, there will be sound effects which I will always recommend be turned on for the full experience. It's made working on the game much more fun, as well as testing it.

Conclusion

I'll be adding more posts relating to specific systems I'm working on or thoughts on design that I'd like input on. If anybody's interested in the game as is, or has any concerns, feel free to leave a comment. I'd love to hear what any of you think. Until then, Merry Late Christmas, and have a good day!
Well, I do think the tele stuff could use some sounds and can't wait to see what enemies you put into the game.

I do love what I have seen though.

Blogging is a great way to get the word out. ;)

Also, never be concerned about the size difference sound effects can make to an RSC file. If people have sound effects disabled via pager options, they wont download them when they download the RSC.

Also, I really like the graphics and the way the game looks. Very nice indeed.
I'm excited to see how this game comes out. It looks rather good from those shots you gave us. I hope to see more blog posts from you.
Looks great. Do you have an estimated time of arrival for this game?
Sure don't! I keep telling myself I can push on it for week and get a teaser out, and I probably could, but I never get up to actually working on it for that long.
