Descriptive Problem Summary:
My game has a HostWindow which is made visible to the host. It appears directly over the default window which has a map on it. If you click the default windows title bar while the HostWindow is open, the map will paint over the top of the HostWindow as seen in the screen shot. The HostWindow is still on top but you have to drag it off screen in order to cause a repaint.
Repro Environment
Numbered Steps to Reproduce Problem:
1. Create a new project
2. Add a map to the default window
3. Create a grass turf and apply it to the entire map
4. Create a new window
5. Launch the project
6. Drag the new window over the map
7. Click the title bar of the default window
It might not repro right away. If you muck around by clicking on both windows and dragging them around, you should see the problem unless it's due to my hardware.
Expected Results:
Nothing happens. The new window remains on top per BYOND design.
Actual Results:
Map paints on top of new window
Does the problem occur:
- The problem occurs every time
- The problem has occurred in many of my games.
- I don't know if it repro's on other machines.
When does the problem NOT occur?
It doesn't occur as long as the player doesn't switch between overlapping windows with
Workarounds:
- Hide the map while other windows are open but this is not a solution for me with this particular game.

I'm working on an actual repro. Looks like it may require something other than what I posted.
|
It requires a turf on the map. It doesn't require the new window to be hidden first. I'll update the repro steps.
|
Alright. It's a hardware/directX problem. I just turned off graphics acceleration and the problem doesn't repro.
|
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Display Adapters: 1. NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 2. NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT Disabling SLI doesn't change the repro. I should have the latest drivers for both cards. |
Is the DreamMaker source editor using DirectX? On occasion, the entire source page renders gray and I have to refresh or minimize and restore to make the gray go away. The problem might be related to this issue. When this happens, I can select individual lines and just those lines are repainted. I'm so used to having this problem that I hardly notice it anymore.

I can't reproduce this on my system, but then I don't have an Nvidia card so that might be the reason.
The DM code editor does not use DirectX. Any paint issues there would be unrelated to this issue. |
nVidia GeForce 9500 GS;
Windows 7 64bit; DirectX Version 11; Problem does not occur. |
GeForce 8600GT + Win7 Pro 64-bit + DirectX v11, unable to reproduce.
Sometimes however the map does display through other programs. I have MS Word open, or VLC, or some other program, and all of the sudden the map of a game I'm running in the background bleeds through. None of the other interface elements do, only the map is shown. Alt+Tabbing real quick to the DreamSeeker window and then minimizing the window again solves this issue. Perhaps the two are related, and Windows 7 fixes the issue that is being reported here? |

I wanted to add an additional screenshot to show my experience and potentially every player with a GeForce card on XP/DirectX 9.
What are the chances of this getting fixed anytime soon? I'd rather not hack up the user experience to avoid the problem. ts |
