I just beat it. It was fantastic, and waaaaay better than the first game. This is significant, because I really liked the first game as well. AC2 fixed pretty much every single thing that was wrong with AC, and added in new stuff as well. I highly suggest buying it.
I've never actually played Assassin's Creed 1 so I don't know how it works, but I did play the second one at my cousins house for about 5 minutes, which I spent jumping from buildings into carts of hay :) (There was a name for this)

Anyhow, what console are you playing this on?
The 360.
PC gamers have to wait to march to get it -cries-
Assuming they don't fuck up the port, it's worth the wait.

Um, they fucked up the port for The Force Unleashed, and it was over a year before the port came out.
I just finished getting all the trophies on PS3. It was enjoyable all the way through. I'm not particularly interested in playing it again though. I just doesn't off much replayability.
Fail, Can't even play mine till christmas and I bought it. ;\
About the only thing that annoyed me about the first one was that walking briskly was a sure sign you were an assassin, because obviously nobody else in that era ever walked faster than a shuffle.

Otherwise, the other things were just cheatable mechanics. Every informant assassination mission I did from a rooftop with throwing knives.
Well, the missions were extremely repetitive. The extremely fun exploration, though, overshadowed this for me because I just love exploring in games.

Was this really fixed in the second game? or are the missions just as repetitive? What are the biggest difference (in terms of gameplay) that you noticed? I'm really rather curious becuase I liked the first one(I just couldn't beat it because I got bored of the mission styles very quickly, I maybe got halfway through.) and I am considering checking out the second one. But I want to know if I should just wait till it drops to like 30-40 bucks or is it worth the 60?
Well, the missions are very non-repetitive now. Ubisoft addressed pretty much every issue that was present in the first game. The gameplay (i.e., stuff outside the missions) is mostly the same, though combat is now much more fun and not as eas.
The ending was pretty cool too.

Ah that's good to hear, I remember some people complaining about the combat being broken or some crap (You could only attack when performing a counter-attack.) I might consider picking it up when I can afford it than.
i finished the game in a single rental (5 days) and didn't feel like playing it by the time it was due to turn in. ironic, considering i spent double or maybe triple that amount of time in AC1 just screwing around after i finished it.

mainly i have this traumatic memory of playing some absolutely abominable "capture the flag" (literally) minigame as part of a larger goal to get the mask. it was totally outside the theme of the game, pointless, and just horribly horribly bad. there were too many unbelievably stupid things about it that it just stumps me how they left it like that

other than that the game was fun though
I got the flag my first try.

...yeah. you have to get the flag three times. the first time, he moves at about 50% your speed, the second time, about 80%, the third time, about 150%
No, I mean that I didn't have to retry that minigame after the first time I did it. I beat all the missions for the golden mask my first time.
I loved playing through AC2, but the replayability is kindof lacking...I did buy it for 60 bucks but ended up ebaying it after I was done with it.

The combat is about the only thing they need to work on, they added a few things like dodge and some disarming moves, but there really are no combos in the game, it's usually just spamming a single button to swing your sword and kill everyone, and if they block it, you just keep hitting it until you get a scratch in.

You *could* attack without it being a counterattack, but the likelihood of it landing was almost zero. The only time you could ever land a swing when not counterattacking was a double-tap (hit the button again the moment the blades collide) or if the enemy is standing there taunting you somehow.

Now that you mention it, I do recall the story missions causing a lot of deja vu. Each of the three sections of the three cities was basically a repeat of the other eight.
