With the final stages of NEStalgia testing underway, I figured that I'd take some time out to capture a few screen shots from around the game. Minor spoilers here and there, but nothing major. Right click on a screen shot and select "View Image" to see it at full size!

For those of you who aren't familiar with NEStalgia, start here and work your way forward. Also, check out Sariat's early review of the closed test, and Jaredoggy's thoughts on the game from a couple months back. We're getting close!

A castle throne room

The party sees a boss!

During party battles you can see what actions your allies have selected. Strategy selection is timed to avoid long waits.

This time the Ranger in the lead is choosing an ability...

The round plays out.

A player is invited to join a group.

The group leader stocks up on supplies.

Using an item in the overworld, in a group.

Class selection upon creating a new character.

Simple battle early on.

Sneaking into a pirate ship!

Screen grab from a cut scene.

Alone on a big mountain.

Character creation.
Great job, Silk. I love all the progress you've made with this game. Looks stunning as always. Can't wait for the release.
Looks excellent! A lot of people, including myself are looking forward to it very much.
Needs more thief.
I'm curious as to how the merchant can be at all balanced compared to the other characters. My guess is they suck, unless you found a way to actually make them interesting.

This was my thought. 1 dominant melee class, a ranger class, 3 mage classes, and 1 "merchant" class. What stats will they be dominant in? Will they dodge more or be quicker like thieves and have various skills to compensate?
Yeah, I'd definately say change merchant to theif, unless Silk has some genius idea for the merchant.
Have faith! You should probably play the game before making judgments on stuff like class balance :P

If there is one thing that I am a master of, it's balancing class powers in games like this. The Merchant and Conjurer were actually just added to the testing version this morning. So far, it's looking like the Merchant might actually be a bit overpowered.

A few Merchant battle abilities: http://files.byondhome.com/SilkGames/nes/ nes_merchantbattle.png

Example: Tax drains enemies HP back to the Merchant. Economy confuses a group of enemies (the Merchant lectures them on economics!)

The great thing about the framework for NEStalgia is that it allows for so many different unique abilities, both in battle and the overworld. The Merchant has a higher drop rate for random loot in battles, a formidable move set, and some incredibly useful overworld abilities that party members will love him for.

I would if I could.

I'll make you the same deal that Sariat took me up on. Agree to write a review/preview/impressions piece on the game similar to what Sariat did and post it on your blog or BYOND RPG this week, and you're in.

You're free to write whatever you'd like (although avoid spoilers), and to give your honest thoughts on the game. If you want in early to try it out, that's your ticket :)
I'd be glad to do that. I think I'm a good reviewer. You can expect a very descriptive review that covers all the bases.

You're a good writer, so I'm looking forward to it. I just added you to the list. The server is up, so go ahead and join anytime!
someone needs to take away all your exclamation marks

you're burning a hole in your metaphorical exclamation-mark-keeping-pocket

oh yeah and nice screenshots
Looking forward to it. Merchant really caught my eye. I'm interested in seeing how that one plays out.
Looking absolutely great! :D
And silk, I'm sincerely sorry about any offensive things I've said to you in the past. But I'd still like to agree to disagree. ;)

To tell you the truth, I don't even remember what you said. I'm always happy to "agree to disagree" with someone and keep things respectful :)

I'm glad that you like the screen shots, and I hope that you'll enjoy the game when it's released.
I think I called you fabricmage. :P

Oh. Well, I don't consider that an insult, so there you go.
But then... why was I banned from commenting on your posts?

I disagreed with you on the fact that mp3 files could not be played with BYOND and called you FabricMage. Perhaps my tone? Oh well, who cares. All's well now.

But you've got to admit, FabricMage does sound catchy. :P

Like I said, I don't really remember you. I ban anyone who starts to sound like a 4chan kiddie/useless troll. I put about as much thought into it as I do when I add a player to my ignore list in WoW.

But enough about that. The topic at hand is NEStalgia.
