It's very much as Lige states. For informational purposes (although I don't tend to point these things out), Lige is part of the moderation team that handles games submissions, listings and tagging for games.

I've noticed this too, if you look at the popular games there isnt a single game released in 2012 and the VAST majority of active games are from 2007-2009. With all the new BYOND features you would expect some new game concepts, I was a bit disappointed. They usually come in waves, one big new project will bring in external interest and cause new people to join BYOND and make their own games. I guess it has just been a while since a large scale project has hit any sort of major popularity note? I might be mistaken, it does seem that way though.

If you want to play "good new games", try looking somewhere other than the fangame-tagged games.
