He actually did play 'Bass with his thumb, rhythm with his index and middle finger, and lead with his ring and pinkie finger' someone posed the exact same question to him. But yeah, Jimi Hendrix did more than just discover feedback, he learnt everything about guitaring himself, he learnt things with his first guitar (with all strings) by listening to the records etc. he was exceptionally talented. Not only that, but he was completely in tune with guitaring, if he wanted to play something, he would. He could do anything physically possible on a guitar and more.
But yeah, my opinion. Mixed with some facts ;D
Not tryin' to turn over your boat or anything, but if he could "Play bass with his thumb" then he wouldn't have Noel Redding on the bass. =P
By playing 3 types of guitar at once he limited just how intricate he could be with songs. He probably coulda' span out a few good songs of just himself playing all 3 types at once, but he didn't. Why? Because he didn't enjoy it. :p
They hired Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell because they were both very talented musicians, they shared many of Jimi's tastes, and enjoyed playing very similar music, so they put them together, it's that easy :p
