Britain was ranked 31st out of 66 countries for its broadband infrastructure, according to the report from Cisco.
So does this mean Britain’s Broadband services are going to go bust?
With our European neighbors getting a lot faster speeds such as Bulgaria and Latvia due to their equipment being more up to date due to only getting broadband accessible recently, Could this spell disaster for British homes as we may have to replace the equipment we have in order to get the full speeds like our European Brethren.
This appalls me to no end the fact British Telecoms is still using the same equipment as they were 5 or 6 years ago , with the internet growing and more people wanting faster speeds it was only necessary for them to upgrade, as to why they haven’t is beyond me.
What are your thoughts on this issue , Does it affect you?

Most british internet provides have been largely criticised for the past few years for their generally poor level of service.
My current internet provider (one of the largest in Britain) suppoedly gives me "a 10 Mb connection with unlimited bandwidth". The drawback? At busy times (which is now about 18 hours of the day) they reduce the speed, at times they can reduce it by upto 75%. There level of customer service is very, very poor. The majority of the time, the person you end up speaking to is not even English, most of them just don't care, and the service costs money and is actually fairly expensive (about $2 a minute to use). They have in the past been quotes as saying things like net neutrality is a load of rubbish. They have also tried "data pimping". It is effectively the same as what spyware does. It records all the websites you visit, and they were then going to sell such information to companies that would find it useful. Even worse is they were going to use software which used this information, and would filter out any ads in a website and replace it with their own ads. They would have done it, if it was not deemed illegal. The best part of it all? A letter was leaked about all the negative criticism they have gotten. The letter said they were not going to address any of the issues because it was not profitable to do so. The letter also stated how they frequently made use of cheap, morally questionable labour in an attempt to save money. Oh yeah, the ISP I have is apparently one of the better ones in the country. Others are apparently worse in a variety of ways. The only ones usually commented on as being better than this are internet connections provided by small companies in a localised area (such as in a city). It is suprising that people in Britain can even access the internet :[ |
