Hey guys,
Sariat here. I randomly pop into BYOND to check up on it and long story short, I joined in 01 and while I am impressed with the updates on BYOND's capabilities, I am not impressed with the community.
So much talent yet so many games never get finished. There hasn't been a "hit" game that even remotely makes use of BYOND's potential.
I intend to start a development team actually PAYING people to make games. Basically, I design the game, create the buzz/community and call the shots while I have my paid talent do what they do best. Now understand BYOND is a hobby community and I do not intend to make a million bucks off of it so keep that in mind. So the persons involved DO get paid, but I would want to work with a passionate group who truly care about the projects.
My intention is to create a game idea, a small video explaining the gameplay and then get an great graphics person to create the entire graphics for it first, post some screeshots and get people interested in the game. After that, find a programmer and get the hard part rolling!
A lot of people have been asking me "Why don't you do it yourself?" or "So you just want people to make a game for you?" . I don't want to do it myself for several reasons. Right now I have my own business which takes up a lot of my time. Also from being in the business world, I have learned to put the right people in the right places. I am not a programmer, I would rather have it done by somebody with skills far greater than mine and same thing with the pixel artist. All the games will be headed up myself and aswell as the team. I would design the game and we would NOT be in it for the 15 minute games.
Our main goal would be to create "hit" multiplayer games with a lot of replayability. Our first project will be the smallest, from then on we will only expand. I'm not saying this is 100% sure becuase of the nature of small business, but its one of my goals and would be a great honor to give back to BYOND and leave it better than what I got it.
Be on the look out for Sariat's team.
And if you act now!
We'll throw in the second multiplayer game for free! So you get: The do it yourself, the first 15 minutes, and the multiplayer All for only two easy payments of 19.99! |
The God Team. :]
It sounds like you're looking for only one person of each "profession" (pixel art and programming, if you will), though? All I can say is that I'm interested in participating (only if it's in the spring, I cannot manage anything any earlier) and that I can do both pixel art and programming (and am better than most at both), though I am more motivated to do programming. |
I would say I would LIKE to have one person of each profession on the team but realistically when you are trying to manage something, people who are the only person in that position tend to think they are indisposable so I would perfer to have one pixel artist as we would get most (90%) of the graphics done BEFORE to create interest and then add on an neccessary.
Programmers all too often just straight up quit or lose motivation, so I would require the source on a daily basis as well as extensive commenting. I would realistically like to have playable versions of a game within 1 month of programming and a final, polished product within 3 months. |
I don't remember team Ebonshadow paying thier people... At least I never got paid!
|
This is very interesting, but I don't have the time to juggle college, programming S&S, and then a paid job.
|
Good luck on that. In my experience trying to get BYONDers to focus is much like herding cats.
Also, to note because I've not seen you around in a long time, I'm Scoobert, incase you didn't already know. |

You didn't ask what our profession was. =( *throws his spear on the ground and pouts* |
Spartans, what is your profession!?
High school student, like the majority of people on BYOND. And school's been eating up the majority of my time. Haven't touched Dream Maker in forever. |
I hear what you mean. I'm not part of a team, but I -am- making a quality game worth playing. At least in my opinion. We'll see what most people think when I release it. I'm fairly certain most will enjoy it. Course, you seem to want a "hit" multiplayer game. This is single player, but oh well, get over it :p

I'm sure you could find somebody better, but I would like to help. I can Program and Pixel Art. Better at programming though.
My e-mail is [email protected] |
If you can pull together a team, that would be nice to see.
