He said none have come in the past year to create a quality original game. That statement is not saying that they have potential, it's saying the game is already of good quality.
|
you agree that no rough but potentially good games have come out that were made by a new developer? yes or no? |
new developer is kind of vague. If you're talking in the past year, I couldn't say. I'm sure there are some with potential out there.

Zaole, do you get paid to go around being a Silk's bitch? What's your rate? </troll> Let Rips be Rips. If a crappy game is getting more players than you, you're defiantly doing something wrong. :p |
Oh, and ignore the fact that ~80% of the community are indulged in anime <s>rips</s>games? Maybe that could be a reason why your game isn't getting enough players?

Without noobs, where would we be? Efencea doesn't get any players because we are doing several things wrong. Mainly, not working on it anymore? And also, not working on it anymore? Thus, giving us no reason to promote the project. |
Funny you said 80% percent. Perfectly describing the Pareto principle of the vital few.
See? Cool people are destined to be scarce. |

If a crappy game is getting more players than you, you're defiantly doing something wrong. :p you must be doing a lot wrong, because there are rips that get played a lot more than the only game you've ever visibly been involved in. my point? it's plainly obvious that rips get played more than original games, and the fact that you even brought up an argument like that in the form of an ad hominem is both sad and largely irrelevant to what we were actually discussing i am letting rips be rips. i'm not trying to stop kids from doing what they want. i'm simply pointing out why BYOND is as it is and why "fixing" the problem isn't exactly feasible from a community standpoint |
The rips spawn BYOND's players. If it wasnt' for a rip I wouldn't have joined BYOND to begin with. And although, I'm sure most people wouldn't want games like BOTLS showing off BYOND and rather games like Bleach Eternity show it off, but at the time people weren't looking for this.
Now I've talked to people who ripped games for fun and then would send out w/e they get for free membership. Suddenly, sources are becoming a part of economy? So it's not always about owning a game or trying to do it your way, sometimes it's about JUST wanting to piss people off and it works. If any sources I worked on got ripped, I'd cry because I know the next day all that work would be released. But this is life, I should expect things to be stolen if they're protected enough. We can't do anything about it nor can it ever be fixed. Otherwise I should just make my coding more advanced so when it does get ripped I don't have to worry about anything happening. =/ I just find it funny though how much I'm starting to hate the thing that most people came to BYOND for in the first place, including me. |
I came here out of curiosity. What is kind of funny is that one of the first games I played here was a Naruto game. I watched Naruto awhile back before I got bored of that stuff and started watching things that actually had to do with real life, such as watching the news at night. More to the point, I really thought it was the greatest thing even though it sucked. I wasn't able to see the brighter side of BYOND until later when my internet parental controls were lifted.

well said, zack.
I should just make my coding more advanced so when it does get ripped I don't have to worry about anything happening. =/ at the very least it would teach the ripper better habits :P |

It was also the first language I learned. I had absolutely 0 experience with any language of code whatsoever when I first came to byond. Not only that but I was forced to teach myself ... Same here. Everyone is different. Everyone learns at a different pace. That said, your assertion that a new developer couldn't be expected to create a good game within a year of joining BYOND is just plain wrong. Back to my main point, which is that the BYOND Anime community is driving away potential developers. We're at the point where no new blood is coming in to develop good games, and the "oldbies" are slowly jumping ship. Give it another few years and Tom might as well change the name of the system to "Rip Your Own Anime Dream", because nobody else will be around. |
I agree these rips are the bane of BYOND. Fug and I were discussing it over the pager, and unless Rips are systematically just BANNED (bar the source rip, the main one to start it all, IE: NBOTLS) off, there will only be more.
It's harsh, but Tom and Lummox need to read this topic and see that they're at risk of losing more coders until BYOND's stuck in an infinite loop of stagnant old games made by rippers. If I had to describe Video Gaming, BYOND's been around 9 years, tops of 12 years, but we only got mostly games that are what, 4-6 years old? Since then, very few new games have been released that are worth mentioning. We're stagnant now, soon enough we'll be CHOKING on Rips. They may make up a majority of the players, but do we need 5000 replica games to attract -basically- the same audiance? |
