well, over the past 2 or so months, there hasn't been any good Pokemon games lately, even most of the non-rips aren't even that decent, so I go around playing random Pokemon games. as I do, i've seem to be astonished by how Pokemon has entered the rip club thanks to someone named Blackxoxdragon(doubt it's his byond key name, I forgot it.) who was a former administrator on Pokemon Underworld that decided to give out the source to the poorly programmed game. i've been doing a bit of research on the games, including rips to other anime games and have noticed the obvious:

rippers are usually people...

-between the ages of 10-14.
-who only know how to edit text strings.
-who learn to "code" by using crappy resources.
-have bad habits of programming, they never start from scratch, which is the most preferable decision in starting a game.
-who use the word coding instead of programming.

there's obviously much more, but I did manage to find some ignorance and non-hesitative people behind the community of the games. 1 person said they wanted someone to teach them how to make a game. 2 people including I said, "me." I also mentioned to [anonymous] to read the DM Guide, but apparently the other 2 volunteers said to learn from resources(what the hell, seriously!). so then I said, "no, don't learn from resources, that's a terrible habit to get into." sadly, [anonymous] without hesitating chose to learn from resources, the crappy one too(Pokemon. oh wait, they're all crappy)! so there goes [anonymous] off into learning programming the complex and terrible way.

arguements is the next thing. they usually last between possibly 3 seconds to 1 minute, depending on who the owner is and who you're arguing to. obviously if you say, "this game is a rip, go learn to make an original one!" you'll get banned by a level 5 GM in a matter of seconds. the funny thing is, is that the owners and even the community don't even know what the word "rip" means on Byond. [anonymous] logged on into a game and said, "I've seen this game before.. it's a rip, huh." obviously, [anonymous], it is, but sadly he got banned. luckily his little arguement lasted over the average. since one, possibly 2 or more explained how the game isn't a rip. obviously it contained oxymoron in it. like one person said, "no, this game isn't a rip, it's from an Underworld source. get your facts straight." don't bother arguing over the game, on the game. it's a waste of time, arguing, and even playing the games themself. as there are over 9000 copies of the rip.

next up are the ways the rippers actually learn to program. well, guess what? most of them don't. however, a few DO try to learn, the wrong way, too. the sources they get their game from also sucks too. I browsed through the code and I could easily find many problems, useless tidbits, repetetive code, and A LOT of copied and pasted demos/resources packed into 1. I'm always wondering to myself, though. "these sources suck, how do these people build such a player-base?" I'm guessing it's the icons. the gameplay sucks too much for the average gamer. speaking of player-base, there is an owner of a rip who relies mainly quantity over quality. which is the opposite of what you want to aim for first. THEN you focus on the player-base.

lastly are the hubs of the ripped "games." you'll know if the game is a rip before clicking on the link to the hub if..

-the description of the game mentions anything about a variety of races, moves, bad grammar(my grammar isn't the best either, i'm just lazy to press my shift key.), spelling, mentioning it's the best game on Byond, or the best of its kind, or if the owner is looking for a "coder","iconner", mapper, forum/website/interface designer, or/and a host in a terrible way.

I hope you enjoyed my review of rippers on Byond... most of them are from Pokemon and DBZ games since i'm no fan of any other anime. i hope you're not a ripper, and if you are, delete your hub(s) now while you still have a chance(oh wait, once you make a rip, you'll always be a ripper.)

the anonymous stories are based on a true story. also note the words I put in quotes, not the sentences.
Could you please contact me at [email protected]. Would like to talk about a Pokemon Game.
oh, this is interesting...now i feel like my games a rip XD

i learned through the "your first world" one before i went into resources to learn...
At first i was making a pokemon game based on the original johto region. no real base but i stole from resources and twisted the codes to what i wanted. after a little bit i scrapped it but slightly used it as a small base to work on a more recent poke game of mine. i still use resources to learn cause i figure im better at looking at code and "reading" it to try and figure out how to use it. also i know my coding abilities are kinda rough so if you were to check the codes, there are probably newb mistakes :/

god XD
well, this post was pretty much a rant, as during the time I posted this half the pokemon games online were complete rips. just wanted to get those certain individuals to look at this. :P

but judging from your games' screenshots, i'd say it doesn't look bad, nor a rip, but the interface could use a bit of refining. I'll try it when I get the chance to.

also, it kind of depends on what resources you use. "your first world" is a good starter kit to start from, but moving onto sources like Pokemon Underworld or certain Naruto/Bleach ones, it can get you into bad habits. but do note I said usually.

sorry if I made you feel like your game was a rip. :P I bet it doesn't fall into the criteria of what I'm saying in this ol' post.

Not really. I usethe words "Programming" and "Coding". I know a lot of programmers that uses "Coding" word and they're excelents.
