Well, haven't posted here in a while and I'm very bored right now since I don't have a class till 6:30 (night classes suck...)so....
Back to the title, I passed my APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) which now activates my scholarship which will reward me with $5,200 dollars this fall and next spring. And since I don't have to pay for tuition...its my money :) It's great

Grats. I've been getting the PELL and SMART grants which comes out as several thousand a semester into my pocket.
|
Pell grants aren't meant to come out as several thousand dollars a semester pocketed. Either you lied on your FAFSA, or someone made a mistake, and I can guarantee there's someone out there that needs the money more than you do.
It's people who abuse these grants that make the entire system look bad. |

Either you lied on your FAFSA, or someone made a mistake, and I can guarantee there's someone out there that needs the money more than you do. I got $3,700 in my pell grant. Cut that in half for fall and spring and that's $1,950 per semester. My tuition was $2,883, so I owed them $933 which I payed since I work. So this money that im getting for my ROTC scholarship is...entertainment money. (New flat screen, XBOX 360 <--new, New computer, girlfriend money.....) To Vermolius....I know the pell grant you couldn't lie on so, you can stop saying you did...the SMART grant I'm not so sure about. |
I was saying that the Pell and SMART grants, combined, pay for my tuition and more. This semester my Pell is $2500 and the SMART is $2000. I'm taking a small semester so my tuition is ~$3000. If you take a moment to find where the money is going, you'll see that the Pell handles the largest portion of my tuition. For those who can't do simple math: 3000-2500 is 500, 2000 - 500 is 1500. Look $1500 magically ends up in my bank account. That's each semester too. I guess I cheated the system. Some of that 1500 goes towards books and other things I need for college, though. Also, I had been getting a bit more in past semesters. I suppose I should return the money that has been putting me through college. Or maybe cunts like Airjoe can quit jumping to conclusions when they have no idea what they're talking about.

This semester my Pell is $2500 and the SMART is $2000. I'm taking a small semester so my tuition is ~$3000. Thank you for wasting $3000 dollars of tax payer money that could have better gone to somebody else. Some of that 1500 goes towards books and other things I need for college, though. Also, I had been getting a bit more in past semesters. I suppose I should return the money that has been putting me through college. Or you could return the money that's *not* putting you through college. You know, the thousands that go "into [your] pocket." |
You have a poor grasp of how the Financial Aid system is set up. What you don't seem to understand is that by giving me money to go to college, even if some of that happens to go to my pocket, I will end up working and paying more taxes in my lifetime than those who remain minimum wage workers. It's sort of an investment in the workforce.
Exactly. Thank you for wasting $3000 dollars of tax payer money that could have better gone to somebody else. What crawled up your ass? Here you're saying that the funds that go towards my education are being wasted? Are you just against financial aid, or do you have some vendetta against me? Did you try to get into college and were too stupid to get aid? Jealous? That's the sort of vibe I'm getting. Another thing you don't understand is that they don't award aid to people who have money already. I get the pell since I qualify for it. If you don't like that, tough. As though you've never pirated anything, which, of course, is far worse than legally sanctioned aid, since, you know, pirating is stealing. You have no grounds to even speak to me about the 'abuse' I've put forth. Pull the corn cobb out of your ass and quit being a hypocritical nark. |

You seem to fail simple comprehension: money that goes into your pocket is not paying for college. Thus, you are abusing the system, and wasting money that could put someone else through school. Do you get it now? No, probably not if you haven't gotten it already. I will end up working and paying more taxes in my lifetime than those who remain minimum wage workers. It's sort of an investment in the workforce. Yes, Financial Aid is an excellent thing. However, you're using money that is intended as an investment in students and *not using it where it was intended*. There is no investment when you pocket the money. What crawled up your ass? Here you're saying that the funds that go towards my education are being wasted? Jeez, you're just delusional. Money that goes into your pocket is not going towards your education. So yes, it's wasted. Are you just against financial aid, or do you have some vendetta against me? I have a vendetta against people who abuse one of the best forms of government aid available. Did you try to get into college and were too stupid to get aid? Jealous? That's the sort of vibe I'm getting. Yes, because we all know aid is based on intelligence. With a $3,000 tuition, I'm sure your community college is lightyears ahead of where I go. Another thing you don't understand is that they don't award aid to people who have money already. I get the pell since I qualify for it. If you don't like that, tough. You are only supposed to accept as much financial aid, be it grants or loans, as you need. When you take more, you take from other people who need that money. |
Yet you still don't understand that not everyone is an irresponsible dolt. You have no grounds to say that the extra money that goes into my pocket isn't being used for my college expenses. The extra money funds me throughout the year. I'm sure there are hundred of cases where 'better' people have taken the extra money back to the school and said, I don't need this, give it to someone who does. I'm also 100% positive this is what you would do. Just because they trust the students to spend the rest of their grant money on things they need outside of tuition doesn't mean that the money is wasted. I'm glad you're a rich bastard who cares about paltry funds. Have fun being a dick. I'm done talking to you and dealing with your ignorance.
