Ok, this is pissing me off. Our school is trying to enforce uniforms. The rule is, if you come into school without a Uniform 3 times, you will get suspended for 1 day.
1. Wearing uniforms have no affect on how we learn. I know ALOT of people that don't wear uniforms, and at the same time mantain a 3.0+ grade point average throughout the year.
2. They don't pay for our Uniforms. Before school starts, we always buy everyday clothes because the school doesen't enforce this rule as soon or before school starts. If they really want us to wear uniforms, they should contribute to us buying them.
3. The school says we fight over who has the best clothes. Trust me, my school does not fight over that. We do fight alot, but never over who has the best clothing.
So today, before I went to school, my mother typed me up a letter to give to the principle about why I'm not going to wear a "Uniform", and I'm exused. I win! :)

If they allow any kids to "opt out" (as my school called it), then it doesn't work at all. Otherwise, it can be alright as long as the uniforms dont suck. Our uniforms blew, though.

In my school (lots of other schools in England follow this system), lower school kids wear uniform and 6th formers wear normal clothes.
I like the system my school uses. School uniform is useful because it means you don't have to waste your awesome threads in school time. |
Our school has the system where the lower/middle school has to wear full school uniform. Which includes black trousers, white shirt, school tie + school blazer.
Then in the Sixth Form (year 12), people are allowed their own suits. School uniform is fine, there's nothing wrong with it. |
I agree with Death, unless the colour scheme sucks. I prefer white ninja's take on the issue:

I wore a Uniform for all my lower education. 'cept Reception when I was 3. I would have drooled on it D:.

Our school is trying to make a move towards uniforms soon because of "Gang Colors". I live in a little town in the country, we don't have gangs.

I only wore a uniform when I went to Catholic School (I hated it so much). Uniforms, plus the stuck up assholes, are a reason I left and went to public school. I would be pissed if I ever was forced to wear a uniform.
