I am trying to host, and I never had problems until I got a new computer with Windows 7. Now all of a sudden it won't host. I've done a ton of things to try and get it to work and am out of ideas.
Dream Daemon is not Windows 7 friendly?

The firewall is set and everything looks good on the ports. It is weird, but even a friend with Windows 7 and has his stuff set and knows what he is doing also has the same problems. And I cannot connect to anybody else hosting. So I am forever forced to play single players...

My computer is running W7, upgraded from Vista. Everything works fine. Check your ports again, maybe through http://canyouseeme.org/?

If your unable to connect to other games, and you are unable to host your own, then there is a high chance that there is a firewall in the way.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling BYOND as an administrator first though. Check to make sure that BYOND.exe, DreamDreamdaemon.exe, and Dreamseeker.exe all have permission for incoming and outgoing traffic. If you new computer has a Nvidea graphics card or uses Nvidea drivers, then there is a possibility that they came preinstalled with a firewall and should be checked also. If your computer is an OEM computer, they have a tendency to install overprotective firewalls, such as McAfee, which should simply be removed, as they have a tendency to block programs even when permissions are correct. Good luck! |

Nothing is working. I used to host all the time. What a disappointment. Just a reminder to everyone reading this ... It's not BYOND's fault. The "host" needs to know how to add BYOND as an exception on the firewall on the hosting machine with the necessary ports TCP/UDP (although one isn't needed I think its UDP best to always add both). The "host" must also open ports on the router/modem that the PC/Laptop/Machine is connected to. The "host" must also point the said ports to the hosting machine's Subnet IP address eg 192.168.1.102 |
I did all that and more. Even my laptop won't work. And I never said it was Byond's fault. I meant the fact that I can't host games with my friends is disappointing.

Could you post a screen-shot of the exception page showing that the three parts of BYOND are configured on all of the the firewalls you're using?
If you feel safe posting a screen-shot of the processes page of the task manager, go ahead and do that too. we can check into it and see if we can spot any red flags. |
Your new computer is not your old computer, settings need to be changed to be similar to what your old computer had, which allowed you to host, apparently.
