It seems that Byond's stance on using the site forums/features to promote non-DM based projects is unclear.
I would like one of the Staff/Mods to clarify the rules on this for me, though a link to a preexisting sticky or post would work just as well.

It's fine, and basically what Off Topic is for. Just don't do the whole referral links spammy thing, as that creates a lot of clutter.

It's stance is probably unclear because we don't have one, because it's quite dependent on what the project is, how you want to promote it, and what the tie back (if any) there is to BYOND.
Usually, the best place for it to go is a single topic in off-topic, similar to those topics you see where someone showcases what they've been doing in unity lately. Those things are obviously of a decent benefit to BYOND, as it shares ideas, generates a bit of talk about how BYOND would compare, inspires the odd new project in BYOND etc. |

Right, I don't have a problem with any discussion in off-topic, so long as it abides by the posting guidelines. I do think that people promoting non-BYOND stuff (like Unity or GameMaker) as a way of putting down BYOND is a pretty lousy thing to do and only adds negativity to the community, but so long as that isn't the implication, no problem! |
