I'm in a curious mood tonight.
Tell me, all you programmers, why do you program?

Me, I program because, not only do I enjoy seeing my idea's come to life. It's calming. After an enraging bad day, theres nothing more relaxing then having music screaming at me through headphones, a cold iced coke next to me, my Fan to my right and my laptop in the centre.

And yet another question, what do you do while programming? I have music in the background or some anime (Normally Peacemaker) playing on the TV in the room. To keep my sanity.

And to top it off, Spriters, same questions.
I sprite, for my own enjoyment. Nothing more, nothing less.
I code because of peer pressure to release an update, while listening to random songs and drinking root beer.
I also like to pace randomly and walk away to see who is watching what on TV, sometimes watching it also for a good thirty minutes.

Now I'm gonna go watch Tv >_>
I code because there is nothing more enjoyable then watching your creation come to life.

I usualy code to death metal blairing throughout my computer room, with a gallon of gatorade on the floor next to me and a cigarette in my hand.

On a lighter note: IT'S ALIVE!!!

*EDIT*
I forgot to mention with a cat on my feet, lol.
I sprite because I like to create things out of my imagination, or just make something to satisfy my desire for self-approval I suppose. There's nothing greater than working on hard on something you really want to create, and then sitting back when it's finished, to admire your handiwork.

When I sprite, usually I listen to underground Metal(Black, Death, Power), while going outside every so often to smoke.
I program out of boredom and neccessity(checkers and the confucius script are two good examples). If I'm bored out of my mind, I open Dream maker (or EditPlus) and make something totally random. You've seen me do both, Tibby.

I always have a sifter of brandy or whiskey on the left, ashtray and cigarettes in the center, mouse on the right and electronic music playing in the background. When I get bored of being bored (or my knees/back start hurting), I go play Battlefront 2 for a few hours. I've also been known to just randomly pace about the house.
Don't know if I'm good enough to be called a Programmer...but "I enjoy seeing my idea's come to life" and I like to help when I know about something. Spriting same thing.
Yeah that "I enjoy seeing my idea's come to life" excuse really has been milked to death.
I still think it's calming to program. After a stressful day, you create less stress foryourself trying to solve runtime errors lol.
Sprite is a damn good soda

<_<
And "icon" isn't a verb.
Well, as someone who does both programming and sprite work, I've gotta go with the "I like seeing my ideas come to life" excuse... Well, more precisely, "I like creating things"

It's definitely not to calm down or relax, though... I'm normally extremely relaxed... It takes one hell of a lot to stress me out, and the types of things that would trigger it don't happen very often... So I've never had any reason to use programming to relax...

So, it basically all falls down to the enjoyment of creating something... Again, I can't really say "I like seeing my ideas come to life" as I get roughly the same enjoyment out of creating things from the ideas of others (I.E. doing commission or charity work for others), so the only common thread is the simple act of creation...

As for what I do while programming? Mostly, I just browse the internet (I've got a small list of regularly-visited sites that I traverse along, in addition to all of the links I inevitably follow from said sites/message boards)

And that's about it for my answers...
For the sheer power of it all. Dance to my whim, little objects! Little monsters, your will is pathetic next to mine! I control your world! HAHAHAHAHAHA!
I was waiting for that responce from someone <.<
i r kode kuz i wan be1337 lik lumsox JZ
That makes so much sense Cheetoz!
Suddenly everything fits!
You're a looser =P

I like to code because, well, I just feel that it makes me more unique from my friends. I hate being exactly like other people, especially my friends. I also code because I want to learn C++, and from there, learn more programming languages, so hopefully when I'm able to get a job (I am under 15, which is the minimum age for us) I can get a decent one that pays a somewhat decent salary. I also enjoy just seeing what I can create.

I enjoy having music in the background, to calm me down when there is a huge error I am having trouble with. It helps me relax and think straight.
