Firefox 3 is to IE as Safari 4 is to Firefox 3. There was a time when Firefox was a Godsend... but after putting up with the slow, buggy release that is Firefox 3 for months upon months now, I've moved on.

Apple's Safari browser was a joke when it first came out for Windows, but version 4.0 has changed all of that. It's not only much more stable than Firefox 3, it's way faster (especially on Vista).

Now much like I did with IE back in the day, I'll keep Firefox on my hard drive to load the occasional site that Safari doesn't display properly. Apart from that, we're done.
Give Google Chrome a try if all you're looking for is a stable and speedy browser. Firefox is all about the extensions.

I actually tried Chrome, but Safari is far superior at this point. I suspect Chrome will be a better option a few releases down the road.
I'm using about 12 extensions and I've never ran into problems with Firefox.
Did you try Firefox 3.5? It's much faster and stabler.

Right. Chrome currently suffers from a few problems (most notably I'm having a hard time finding an ad blocker) but its speed and ease of use are unmatched. I'm currently altering between Chrome an Firefox, depending on where I want to browse.

And it has new HTML and CSS features :D
I tried Chrome. It's so slow, IE is way faster. For me anyways.

Totally.

I don't think that speed is a worthy substitute for not following web design standards.
Magicbeast20: If Chrome is slower than IE for you, there is something horribly wrong with your system. Although IE8 is undoubtedly the fastest and most stable IE ever built, it falls flat in almost every way to almost every browser.

Speed, in almost every sense is hands down Chromes win. Cold-boot, warm-boot, CSS/HTML render time, javascript run speed, and likely some others are all areas where Chrome is top in the market. Many things about Chrome are not enough for people, personally I have to have my Firefox addons. I'll take the slow startup of Firefox for the addons alone. Chrome is also missing some configuration that some people might really need, I suspect this is where Silk falls, as the rendering engine for both Safari and Chrome are the same, so it is unlikely that he is running into hurdles like site compatibility.

If Chrome is taking more than 15 seconds to start from a cold-boot as they call it, there is something either wrong with your system or it has overly tight RAM limitations. It wouldn't likely be processor speed, as my netbook underclocked at 900Mhz does just fine with Chrome.
I don't know why everyone is having so much trouble with firefox, I've modded my firefox not even a week ago and it's working blazing fast. But I guess everyone has their opinions on it, but I personally love Firefox.
When I get home ill post my comp specs. I have a good computer, but I have bad internet. That's probably why its so slow.

Edit:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz 2.34 GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB

Not sure if thats good or bad. Not really a computer wizz.
Opera?
I've never had a problem with Firefox.
The internet has this bad habit of having awesome programs get way way too application heavy. Then someone else will come out with a simpler, cleaner version and become wildly popular. Then proceed to sell out and also become way too application heavy. It's a vicious cycle.

For example I quit Myspace to use Facebook in 2006 now I'm using Myspace WAY more again. And I quit IE to use Firefox, and now IE isn't really seeming so bad anymore...

Haha, you had me going there for a second.
Like others have said, I've had no problems with Firefox as far as memory usage and speed go.

My system is an old piece of crap (It was considered low-end in 2002) and I can start Firefox (3.0.12 right now) in under 15 seconds after booting my system up.

I've never had Firefox use more than 120-150MB of RAM even with many tabs and whatnots running.

I have 15 extensions and tons of plug-ins installed.
I'm still a Firefox fanatic. I run upwards of 10 or more addons (Do any other browsers have something equivalent to the NoScript plugin?) and it still runs pretty damn fast. I fear Google's lack of concern for individual privacy too much to switch to Chrome. Besides, I'm a tab freak, and as long as I can run 20+ tabs in Firefox without any discernible slowdown, then there's no reason for me to switch.
