Yeah. I've had my fair share of horror movies. Saw, Hostile, Donny Darko, Grudge, Chainsaw Massacre, ect. But there are only a hand full of movies that puts you on the edge of your seat, that chills your spine, that gives you a sense of fear. One of these movies is known as The Exorcist. Nothing like a person getting possessed. Exorcisms date back from the begennings of Christianity. The practice of evicting demons or spiritual entities from a person or place. The dicrector perfectly executed the task of creating a situation in which an actual exorcism was taking place. Long story short,The Exorcist was a hit. I have an entire list of movies worth mentioning. Or you could just go to FearNet.com, the number one horror movie site on the web. |

Spice Girls: Spice World? Never heard of it. Might look it up later. I was being sarcastic, it's not a horror movie. It's a popmusic video based on the "popular" UK band "Spice Girls". The only horrific part was being subjected to it to the point I wanted to hang myself. |
Never really got into The Exorcist. Normally I enjoy the way older movies allow themselves to take the time to set things up properly, but with this one it just felt like the first half of the movie was just killing time. You know the girl is possessed, so all the medical tests seem like they're just there to pad the movie out.
Now if they had of made it so the movie never gave you a clear indication of whether the 'possession' was a mental disorder or a legitimate possession, that would be a lot more interesting. Make it so the mother is pressured into the exorcism rather than seeking it out as a last resort. Then you'd have this cool thing of having a big question mark hanging above the characters. Are they good guys, saving a girl from evil? Or are they bad guys, treating a serious mental disorder with barbaric rituals? |
Hmm, I can't say it had the quite same effect on me since it was made a little before my time but I did enjoy The Descent a lot to mention a "good" modern horror.

I just love how you guys call it "Johnny Darko" -- that's not even what the movie is called. Good job guys. Johnny Darko sounds like the porno version of Donny Darko. |
Those wishing to follow KershiVelix's suggestion can find Strangeland on Hulu. I think you have to live in North America to stream it though.

I don't like the fact that Saw was horror; I watched about half of Saw IV about a week ago, and it really didn't get much more intense than a guy scaring a woman and forcing an abortion (srsly, blood and guts aren't scary).

The Exorcist (any of them) is to old to contain anything that I haven't already been desensitised to. I was going to watch it once, but my VCR blows major, and I don't feel like buying a DVD I'll probably never watch more than once.
I saw Exorcist: The Beginning once, but I had the end plugged reasonably quickly, and knew that the protagonist would come out alright. That's the trouble with prequels.
Really, the only movie that's ever scared me was Spice Girls: Spice World. I was so worried I was going to hang myself before the torment had ended.
