The kids and I have a chant every morning as I drive them to school.

Dad: "We're going to school to..."
Kids: "Get some knowledge!"
Dad: "And eventually you will..."
Kids: "Go to college!"

www.payscale.com has released their 2008 salary survey from nearly every college in the United States. They have collected data for starting median salary and mid-career median salary.

Compare this to other sobering statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

A college degree = more earning potential... make a note of it.
Awesome. US News & World Report can rank RPI at number 41 all day long, but it looks like we trumped some of the "better rated" schools as far as earning goes.

To be honest, I'm not sure how well I trust the results though. Last years results seemed horribly out of place. Even this year they seem a little off. I'm surprised to see RPI beating Caltech; as much as I like my school, I'm not unrealistic.

My mom has her Master's degree yet over a third of her earnings are stolen by Uncle Sam.

She still gets calls from debt collectors.
Well, she should be earning millions of dollars a year, so only a fifth or sixth of her earnings are stolen by Uncle Sam.
If only she had more money in the bank. Then she could be paid to be rich!
Hey , "dad" , How about you get a LIFE!

This is a kids website , do you even work , .. well you probably live in yuor mom's basement.

Get a job ; Joo Dirty child raper.
Blaze is apparently unaware that 1) this is not a kid's website (even if most of the retards here happen to be younger) and 2) that Buzzyboy is a friend of Tom and Mike H's.
Awesome pwnage? I think so.
Rich people are rich because they're good at not wasting money, not necessarily because they make a lot of it. Ever notice how fast lottery winners tend to go broke?

As for the topic, statistics like this can be easily skewed. For example, suppose we had a group of people with the best education possible. I tell you that 99% of them are employed and they make an average of 100k each year, which statistically is true. What I'm not telling you is that 98% of them are employed at McDonalds and one out of a hundred have struck it rich.
Of course, those who would take these statistics would account for outliers, as that is one of the thing statisticians do.
Rich people are rich because they make good financial decisions or at least that's what I've always thought.

That definitely does play a big part, but you also have to factor in location, parents income, and a little bit of dumb luck.

The income listed is median, not mean.
