Apparently what I feel the average person knows about music is greatly flawed, so I just want to see how many of these bands people know. Also, had to repost the poll because I forgot to include zero.

From what it sounds like, you are putting the people down that don't know about these bands or don't listen to them. Frankly, I didn't know most of them, I do know they are all Punk rock bands. Sorry, I don't listen to it.

Erm... no, not at all. All four are extremely influential hardcore punk bands, and I had thought that most people would've heard of them all even if they didn't listen to them, through cultural osmosis. I found out yesterday that I was wrong, and was quite surprised.

I will say this. I cannot stand people that have no appreciation for other people's musical views. I know too many people that will say, "wtf, u dun no bout tis band? were hav u ben? u hav no soul moron". Honestly I want to punch every one of them in the face. That's off topic though. | |
The only ones I've ever heard of are Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys, though this is purely through the cultural osmosis you mention... I couldn't name, hum, or recognize any of their songs (though I'm sure I've heard some of their work somewhere along the lines)
[Edit:] I think the problem in this case is that punk (especially hardcore punk) is still too far off the mainstream for anyone not interested in punk to hear about, even just in passing... | |
I'm a fan of black flag, and I know who the dead kennedys and minor threat are. never heard of bad brains though.

I've heard the name Dead Kennedys but never listened to them. That's all I heard of from the list.
