Last week my fathers doctor informed him that he'll need to travel to Melbourne to consult with a specialist heart surgeon; as it turns out that regardless of the weight he's lost and all his time off work, his heart has not improved, but in fact, gotten worse.

It was only today my father informed me as we were travelling home from his mothers place that this consult isn't really a "will I need open heart surgery" but more a "when can I get in to have open heart surgery". This was quite a shock to my system, as regardless how much technology has come forward and regardless of how some of the best surgeons in the world can perform, they still have to stop his heart for this considerably major surgery.

To say I'm not worried would be a lie. I'm very worried, beyond worried even. I know that open heart surgery is fairly common in my country and the surgeons who perform it are some of the best in the world. But still, complications can and do arise. Thus, I'm going to admit I'm more frightened than worried.

Should the surgery happen, it's probably going to happen around the end of August. Granted, if the surgery is a success, most of my fathers health problems will magically disappear in the three months he has to take it easy. However, if it fails, he dies. The latter is not a very nice prospect to consider, yet still weighs heavy on the back of my mind.

Wish him luck.
Hope it goes well.
(Whoever voted you down is a complete douchebag by the way.)
I hope it goes well, best of luck to you father.

Also, whoever nayed you is a douchebag.
Sounds like things are going to be pretty tense for a while.

I hope all goes well.
Good luck!
We'll just assume that the Nays are from people who are Nay-ing the situation, not Tiberath or his dad... As in "I can't bring myself to click a button that says "Yay! (yea)" after reading that"

But anyways, the best of luck to your father, and to yourself as well (I can't honestly say how I'd handle that sort of news)

I doubt it. All of my posts get ~5 nays from people who have something against me. I highly doubt they even read the post.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support.
Surgery.

I've always found surgery kinda scary. I don't like the idea of people with knives and tools playing around with my insides. Not at all.
As you said, the technology for modern medicine has come forward alot. I think I read somewhere that the death rate for this type of surgery is only 2-5 out of every 100 people.

If you consider the fact that he's going to Melbourne, which is ranked in the top 300 hospitals. I'm sure the chance of him having complications is very very low, if anything.

Best of luck, Tib. I wish you & him well, and we'll see you around again soon, right? :D
Good luck, you deserve it.

Edit: I just got trolled on pager for this; I didn't mean it in a cruel way. Damn people.

Just to clarify: Melbourne Australia. A lot of people seem to make this mistake. But you're right, still one of the top 300 hospitals in the world.

Haha, no harm done. I knew you meant I deserved the good luck, not the misfortune. ;)
