This is terrible, but rather amusing. <--- Audio clip
... and this is a well payed tribute, yet still amusing.
I admit his infomercials annoyed the hell out of me, as they'd be a few decibles higher than the show it followed, but he was a legendary voice. It's like the death of the "In a world where..." movie voiceover guy... Things just won't be the same on TV.
Well that's 4 people in the media down, and things tend to work in 3's... so anyone care to start a deadpool for the other 2?

Yeah. Tim wasn't sure if he should post that strip yet or not, but he eventually either got talked into it or decided on his own. I bet it was the former.

I wouldnīt consider them (sellers) as popular over here in Germany. I hate infomercials and i think its a wast of time/money to watch them anyway itīs fascinating to see someone becoming popular via infomercials.

Whoa, Buckley actually drew some new mouth pieces!
While it's a little sad he's gone, I'm glad I don't have to listen to his yelling anymore. |

Luckily for Mr. Mays, most of his ads were just the regular 30 or 60 second television commercials... It's just that he made quite a lot of them... He started out with Oxiclean (well, at least this is the first thing I remember him pitching) and became known as the OxiClean guy, but then he began adding more and more products to his repertoire, like Orange Glo, Kaboom, Mighty Putty, Mighty Mend-it, Big City Slider Station, Quick Chop, Awesome Auger, Hercules Hook, Zorbees, etc. (you'll have to look those up on your own to see what everything is...lol) He even recently had an ad for a life insurance company (ironic?) Most of us here generally dislike the usual commercials (and their full-length infomercial cousins), but Billy Mays (and his rival, Vince "Offer", the Shamwow guy) have such strong personalities, that it's hard to ignore them... Billy Mays worked his way into our subconscious as an entertaining pitchman (heck, he even just started doing a show with another guy who does "As seen on TV" commercials called "Pitchmen") and became a household name and a common part of our lives, even if most of us would rather change the channel when the commercials are on... |
