I never thought the day would come when I would actually post an "I'm leaving BYOND" message. But Uncle Sam has forced my hand.

"Annoying someone via the Internet is now a federal crime."
Come to think of it, this probably wraps it up for most of my favorite BYONDers. Sorry, guys!

Or you know, all of the Internet community could join in unity of peace and niceness.

Chwgt, I don't think Gughunter appreciates criminals posting on his blog. >_>
Me, Hazman and DAU on the other hand...we think your blog, Gug, has a really horrid colourscheme! >:D DeathAwaitsU wrote: Or you know, all of the Internet community could join in unity of peace and niceness. And non-voting-for-Bush-ness. What Bush doesn't seem to understand is that a very, very large percentage of the American electorate use the internet. Alienating himself from its users won't help his support at all. The only good thing I can see coming from this is that it SHOULD reduce spam, or at least give the names and addresses of the people behind spam emails to their victims. It's head-crunchin' time. |
Elation, he established his identity. Therefore it's perfectly legal :P
However, I do have one question: If I annoy the heck out of you, but don't tell you anything about me, how are you going to find me? ^^ |
Elation, he established his identity. Therefore it's perfectly legal :P Look at the edit. However, I do have one question: If I annoy the heck out of you, but don't tell you anything about me, how are you going to find me? ^^ The FBI is watching! |
So if John Kerry being the ... that he is, decides not to reveal himself, but offends me.... I can get him arrested?

Chwgt deleted his post where he asked "How does [insulting Bush] make me a criminal?", which is why I asked him if he indeed read the article.
Elation, he established his identity. Therefore it's perfectly legal :P The article says: "In other words, it's OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a blog as long as you do it under your real name." "Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity." Chwgt's BYOND profile says: Real Name: Chris I would imagine that you'd have to detail your first and last name, since that'd be his true identity. |
Wow. I am always amused by how people misinterpret laws.
The law seems to make electronic communications an offense if 1) made with intent to annoy or harass and 2) made without disclosing identity. Saying that communications which have the result of annoying are prohibited is grossly mireading the law. Nonetheless, it seems blatantly unconstitutional and not terribly likely to see much enforcement anyway. I do think it ironic that it was slipped in by Republicans and signed by Bush. So much for conservatism and defending freedom. Nothing new, I guess. |

American BYONDers, that is.
Does this mean I can annoy you without fear of annoyance back?
