So, with the new year a few days away, I again look back to accomplishments made during the year.
...
Ahem.
Anyway, this is (give or take a few weeks, if you take into consideration the Dec 1st keyname bug and a few weeks I was missing during my first year) my 4th year on Byond, and what do I have to show for it?

Welcome to the extent of my ability in the Dream Maker language. I've tried more times than I care to think about to understand it, to just buckle down and try to make something. Each time I end up inescapably lost, no matter how much I look through the index or the online Blue Book or lurking in the Developer How-To section of the forums.
When it came to looking for online games, I knew exactly what I wanted to find. Something I would off and on think about for over a decade was an online form of the earlier Dragon Warrior games, as close to the actual look and feel as I could get. Heck, when I was younger and REALLY bored I'd actually turn on DW3 and level up some characters to attack each other (my first PvP. How cute). I drew together maps in my head. What I'd make the world look like, towns, dungeons, etc.
When I found Byond, I saw that I was already beaten to it. Oh well. I checked it out, and read about the plans for a revamped version, and it was like my early videogaming childhood all over again. Looking back, DWO in the form I saw it was just stagnating but with the promise of an update not far away. Before I familiarized myself with the community, I was already seeing my "net dream" unravel and that was my first reason for staying with it.
(If you've read this far, what the hell man)
I didn't stray far from DW fangames, but eventually settled into a couple of others anyway. Was I compensating for my lack of understanding Dream Maker for me to get so pushy and vocal about what could/should be done about updates, and my overzealous drive for perfection in (another's) fangame? Probably. I can't say anything with 100% certainty but that's the only explanation I have ever come up with. Nobody I bugged ever indicated that I was being a pest, but after a while I started to feel like I was annoying people. Then it just got weird for me to stay in the game.
Though when push comes to shove, I suppose I should've been told to shut up. They were never my games, anyway...
But 4 years, and the best I can show is editing map files without source code? That's just a softer way of saying "opening it in Wordpad and copying over text".
To anyone who just clicked and scrolled, here's a summary.
-Wanted to make my own game.
-Too incompetent to grasp the language.
-Gets a bit pushy on other games to compensate.
-Can't code
-Don't map
-Can't "icon"
-Can't compose
What does that leave that would actually let me bring anything useful to a game? Your guess is as good as, if not better than mine.
Or if all you were interested in was a picture, here you go. I won't flip out if someone only comments on the image.
