The Tomb Explorer competition for the Scattered Chambers map is now concluded. It looks like D4RK3 54B3R is our winner with 5034 points, just inching past Nadrew who had 5009.

Here's your shiny medal, D4RK3 54B3R!

I'm a little disappointed that there were only three participants this time around. If anyone has suggestions for things that could stir up some more participation, lets hear it!

Thanks to those who participated!
Nice work, Darke. I'll get you next time -- I had to be out of the house for the evening and didn't have a chance to try.
By any chance do you know when the next one will be coming out?
Well, what keeps me from participating (whether this helps or not) is that I don't have the time to run through the challenge level over and over to; first, get it figured out and memorized step by step, and second, to push up the score and push down the time... Which seems to be the common method to attacking these competition maps...

That's not a knock against the game, the maps, the competitions, or the competitors, it's simply that I don't have the time to do it the way it appears to be necessary to be competitive as things stand...

Perhaps some of the competitions could be adjusted so that they don't require the sheer number of iterations through the map to put up a decent score? Maybe even a one-time-through sort of competition?

If the other non-entrants are in the same boat as I am, then that might drive up participation... Of course, I'm not saying to do away with these sorts of competitions, but they're not really for everyone...
Well, I could perhaps setup the rankings system to include how many times the player has gone through the level, and once it records them having completed the level, it refuses to update their score anymore. Therefore your score is based on how quickly you complete the level the first time through. That being the case, I could also abolish time limits.

The fact that this information would be stored in the rankings means that its out of reach for players to modify. However, it would also mean that they can play through the map as much as they want offline. Unless I throw some kind of hack in there that forces the map to be played while logged in to BYOND.

If players can practice offline, that still means players like Darke and Nadrew can practice while offline until they've got everything memorized and then play their one time through. Or players can just play through until they're happy with their speed, otherwise keep restarting before they finish.

Haywire: Not sure yet, but it won't be too far away.
Just make sure that the non-competition version of the maps are included everytime you hold a competition if you want to do that
So players get a chance to practice before they play? I think that kind of ruins the point, if the goal is to score people on how long it takes for them to figure out the map.
