This issue has been resolved.
Yesterday my chest, containing a lot of my stuff vanished. People are telling me things like 'map rollback' but in truth if this was the case my entire house would have vanished (because it was built on the same day as my chest) so too would my cart (which was built after my chest).

Keep an eye out for version 6002. The current version listed is 6001.
