Face it. The political world is far from gentle. The general public tend to follow what they know, can be corrupted/bribed easily, etc. and so polititions use it to their advantage to get themselves in office.

I got to thinking, that could make a really killer game. "Dirty Politics". It would probably make a good text game, but I think it would be even cooler as a graphical game.

It would need an engine similar to Fate's in terms of that you'd have to build your empire and have lots of people to follow you and/or do your bidding. You would be in a large city, you'd have to be converting citizens of the city to your idea... Or forcing them to.

It wouldn't be very violent, but it would have stuff like murders and coverups to prevent being found out and being busted.

Being American, I'd like to see it about the American system of government, since it allows for easy corruption of the citizens through propeganda/pursuasion and such, and the citizens decide your fate... But you could also follow other parties, such as socialism, communism, anarchism, your own, etc... But stuff like communism and your own would have very few supporters, and you'd probably have to resort to a lot of sinister acts to win.

I'm not sure how the public system should be done. It shouldn't be done like fate where you find people on the street and interact with them... Maybe have it so there is people aout walking like in Fate, but they are specifically for recruiting to be in your party and do your bidding. The actual public would be converted through public rallies, advertising, visiting house-to-house, whatever to get more people on your side.

You'd be playing against other players and/or other AI, competing for office of your city.

You'd also have to try to earn money for campaigning using different methods.

The whole game will be about playing mind games with the public to get them to vote for you and win. I think it's a pretty cool idea.

Before you ask, no, I cannot do it. No time
Nope, it sucks. Politics suck. =P
I think you're wrong. Politics suck in the way I just talked about, they are bad. But I think it would make a fun game trying to get into office.
Hiead has no idea what he's talking about. =p I might take this game idea up over the Christmas holidays, since I've been learning loads about politics in my lessons. If you research Mussolini- now THAT is how to come to power. =D

*edit*

But stuff like communism and your own would have very few supporters, and you'd probably have to resort to a lot of sinister acts to win.

Communism was pretty popular during the 19th and 20th centuries! You don't need to rely on sinister acts to get a socialist party in power. Infact, Mussolini used sinister acts and gang violence to beat up Socialists in order to get to power himself. He had his black shirt gangs...Hitler had brown shirts...I forget who was the original person to have red shirts...oh well.
if anyone does take it up, make sure to really take a look at the game and design it well before-hand. I didn't exactly think much through the details, but it gets the general idea across.
Hmm....wait, if it were based solely in New York, with no European influences it would be good. European politics r teh horribleness.
Why are European politics horrible? =/

(also, I edited my first comment to add something)
That would be, interesting, yet fun.
European politics are horrible because the United States is the greatest! And somebody in this conversation is European. =P

/me was just kidding about the horribleness.
If anyone decides to take up this idea, if you show me your game notes and I like the overall game design, I will help with graphics in my spare time (or lack thereof...).
This might even be better in the form of an overboard, like Incursion has but of a city. I think I like that better than the original Fate-like RTS idea.
Hm. How would it work out? Could it be like an on-going RPG style thing, with a persistent world where people vie for power? Or a round-based type thing, where once you have enough players (say, 4 +) then you could choose your assets and alignment, and so on, and make your way to the top until that particular game ends.
I like a turn-based theme.

I also think it would be better to have it be per-game based, so newbies has just as much of a chance against oldbies as anyone else. Make for true strategy.
I may make an Ant Wars esque game like that. >_>

[editlolol](making it an RTS with cards)
American politics would be so much easier to do than european. I mean America hasnt even been invaded yet in its 300 odd year existance :P
Just off topic,
Your CSS looks like shit.
It's too dark to see some of the links;
It cuts off parts of your blog posts;
And its malformed.
That is all.
(nothing against you however, it just makes your blog look like a pile of crap... Jazz it up some!)
I have it configured for IE and I don't have firefox, if thats what you're referring to. Since I hate firefox, I probably won't be fixing it up at all, either :P

Your moniter must also be overly dark, because my moniter is darker than most and I can see most of the links just fine.
Kunark don't listen to him. I like your layout, its orginal, nd it looks good.

I have firefox, with a low resoultion, and I don't have any of those problems.
We were totally invaded in 1812! Do your history!
