To give people a better sense of NEStalgia, I've recorded a bit of footage from the first few minutes of the game. The footage has been cut up, but it is presented in order.

What you see is the opening title screen along with a quick look at the loading/class selection menus. From there the video jumps right into NEStalgia's opening cut scene, along with the player navigating his way through the small beginning cave.

The video ends with a short battle. NEStalgia features a 3-person party battle system along with tons of monsters that use different tactics... but what you see here is the opening one-on-one "tutorial fight" with a vanilla opponent.

Due to Youtube compression framerate differences the image is a little jumpy, and effects like the screen flashes are off. In the game all effects are smooth. If you'd like to view the video in higher quality, I've also uploaded a quicktime version (10 mb)
Looking good! I'm sure everyone is anxiously awaiting its release. :)
Wow, looks good so far! All you really need now is content by the looks of it :P

Yup, that's pretty close to where we're at at this point. I'm pretty stoked, because creating content/story is the fun part!
This looks really intriguing. I am wondering, though; you have mentioned it to be multiplayer and PVP capable, so will there be a traditional storyline in that you can actually bring the game's plot to some sort of conclusion, or will it run more along the lines of an MMO?
Lookin' good.

Good question. I know that the typical MMO isn't heavy on story or a centralized plot, but NEStalgia definitely will be. The main storyline has a beginning, middle and end, and there is a final boss to face down in the conclusion.

Does this mean that players who are in a party will have to be in the same part of the story to progress further? If you are just about to enter the last boss battle, but then decide to help a friend kill the first boss (who was already killed) it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

There are certain concessions that you have to make when creating an online game. While normal continuity in a single player game dictates that once a boss is dead he's gone forever, in an MMO that's not the case.

NEStalgia controls game progression through quests. You may be asked to go and defeat a boss for a quest, but that doesn't stop you from going back and killing him again.

Players don't have to be on "the same part of the story" in order to group together, but lower level players will not be able to access certain parts of the world until they've progressed far enough in the main storyline.
Looks very good. Also, I cant wait to bang assassins like you did and meet up with this "lord ballzack".

So in that sense, it's like Diablo 2 for instance. You can play as a team and you can re-kill bosses, but your team mates can't join you in other acts until they've completed the one they're in.

Exactly, that's a good way to describe it.

See, I love that about certain games. I find it fun not being able to access a certain part of the world until I have completed something (no, I am not being sarcastic). I can tell this game is going to be real fun. Hurry it up so I can play. :)

I would like to comment on the video, but I can't, seeing as how I am not going to watch it. I'm the type of person who doesn't join a game, watch trailers on it, or have anything to do with it until it is fully completed. I only do that to games that I know are going to be fun.
I was grinning happily the whole time I watched this. I'm gonna love this game.

Cavern, you have nothing to be concerned about. Everything in this video appears to be polished well already.

Congrats, Silk.
Thanks :)

There is still a lot of work to be done, but I'm very happy with where we're at so far.
I have a question about that opening scene. Is it instanced (meaning each player has their own opening scene) or will everyone share the same location for it?

If the later, I think it'd ruin the feel if more than one person would log in at a time.

Cut scenes such as the opening scene in this video are designed so that other players don't see them (unless they are in your party), and so that you don't see other players.

So yeah; you won't see other people walking through your cut scene.
Very good, I hate when people walk in front of my movies, having it happen in my cut scene would bring the same feeling.
Hosting DWO for a bit to see if my old PC can handle it. Hang out, tell NEStalgia secrets to those who didn't make the beta!

Apologies in advance if posting this is looked down upon.

Cool :)

Despite the fact that DWO 1.90 is almost six years old, it's a good example of how well the classic console RPG formula translates into an MMO. Anyone who is curious about NEStalgia would be well advised to give DWO a spin, especially if there are other people to party with on the server.
