lol yup.

saying "this game is fun" isn't a well-supported opinion because there's no explanation of why the game is fun. that seems to be the reason that you don't like fanboys, because they don't support their opinions. well, you're no opinion-supporting saint either. most of the time it seems like you're saying, "i don't like this game because fanboys like it, and they are wrong so by disagreeing with them, i am right." well, there's no right or wrong when it comes to liking a game, the best you can do is to support your opinion. so, whether you disagree with them or not, you'd have to explain things better than saying "it doesn't quite get to that level", "just not as good as people make them out to be", "It doesn't live up to the hype", "boring and linear", "the battles are slow and uneventful", "filled with teamkillers, racists, and general idiots", "it is very linear, with a dissapointing story", and "including ugly graphics, horrible AI, and flimsy controls". take any of those statements, change the adjectives, and you have something that your typical fanboy would say.
halo was big because FPS games were already popular, just not as popular on consoles. there are a lot of people that would play console games, but would never be enough of a geek to play counter strike, or other FPS games on PC. if halo only came out for PC, it woudln't have been nearly as popular because there are already so many great FPS games out for the PC. halo introduced a lot of people to the FPS genre that otherwise wouldn't have given a game like halo a chance. i don't think that MGS2 was very overrated. its widely acknowledged as being worse than MGS1. its not as good as i expected it to be, but it didn't get the praise that people were expecting to give it. |
Once again, OFD ruins things. Gordon is posting an opinion on his blog. if you're gonna argue, make the argument long the lines of "zomg, dat game was teh shiznit biatch don't diss it newbie lolz." For example, chrono trigger kicked ass. Not the best RPG of all time, but I still like it. No, my favorite RPG's are still Earthbound, FF 4, and Chrono Trigger is 3rd.
|
MGS2 has a very dedicated fanbase out there. It isn't as large as either of the others, but it is out there, trust me.
|
Hiten, overrated itself is an opinion, not a fact. I'm not going to bother trying to back any of this up with facts other than the size of the fanbase.
|
kh i agree ff7 quit taking that damn crack i told ya drugs are bad for u.
chrono trigger wasnt my fav rpg, mine would have be legend of dragoon or grandia. |
I can see what you mean about KH, but it still isnt THAT bad and FF7 is a great game but really overrated. I love it to death but it doesnt really deserve the hype it gets.
|
Hey Gordon: you're an idiot.
My comment is almost as useless and derogatory as your post. |
MGS2 has a very dedicated fanbase out there i wouldn't consider MGS2 to be very overrated because the fanbase doesn't seem any larger than it should be. it was still a good game, and for those that didn't play MGS1 it was even better. while it might be slightly overrated, i think that almost any game made by nintendo after 1998 is more overrated. |
For once, I agree with OFD.
Shades covered FFVII up well, though the choices of Materia shouldn't effect your entire character throughout the game. You can switch between whatever materia you want aslong as your not in a battle. I wouldn't call it overrated, its just people that complain it is. Haven't got into the game, or are just angered at the fact it has a lot more fans. |
Only thing i disagree with is MGS2.
I loved MGS2. I also Disagreed with KH, but meh, i didn't get to beat it. Raiden was NOT a bad character, he was a young new agent who was brought in. He fit in the story well, especially his relationship with him and Solidus. Vamp was NOT a bad character, he was interesting, i mean how could you NOT like the hallway scene where he took out half of the troops out in a split second leaving a hallway filled with blood. Fatman was a interesting character, but even more interesting was the way they blended him with the story itself and the boss battle was interesting, especially the end! "WHERE THE FUCK IS THAT BOMB!" Look at it this way, Raiden was your Typical pampered, blonde haired, naive rookie that was brought in, now after learning some tips from Snake, and knowing the actual truth, Raiden will come out a battle-hardened solider, which will lead to his leading role in the on-going MGS series. So Raiden is the future of MGS, MGS2 was just to implement him in the story. He's eventually going to grow and mature sooner or later. Giving him a more "MGS look". |
Raiden was really put down after MGS2, I actually really liked Raiden as a character and it was fun to move around (cartwheeling across areas, LOL)
People don't like him because he seemed more "rookie", had a funny voice actor (not as gruff as Snake's) and most likely another pathetic reason like his long hair. It probably didn't help Rose being on his case 24/7. Kojima wanted to create a different perspective of Snake, he wanted us to play the "rookie" and see Snake in a different light. Which we did see him in. He'll definatly be improved in the next game. Kojima knows how unsuccessful he was in the West. I loved MGS2 aswell, a bloody fantastic game. There were down sides to it though as all games, the long and constant codec conversations mainly. Some people might not find the storyline that great either, probably because they didn't understand it. ^_^ |

Some people might not find the storyline that great either, probably because they didn't understand it. ^_^ Yeah, that is why people hated MGs3 so much, it was too "Cinematic", but that is what Kojima strives for, he strives to give the player a good deep storyline, he wants to get to player to know these character's past, and their possible future. He wants the player to sink into the storyline and get more into the game. MGS is the series for the patient, if you're not patient then it would be like "These cutscenes are too long, i just want to play". |
I did not like Raiden because I found both his personality and his voice acting annoying. It is really just a matter of preference.
I didn't like Vamp because, well, I just don't like vampires. I find them incredibly stupid <_< And Fatman was good for a few laughs, but really felt to out of place. My main complaint with MGS2, though, was the gameplay. MGS and MGS3 both had some AMAZING boss battles mixed in with some great stealth moments, neither of which MGS2 had. I came out of it without a single memorable moment. |
