MGS3 is absolutely amazing, tons of memorable moments in there :O

halo was big because FPS games were already popular, just not as popular on consoles.

Are you sure? I think Goldeneye was pretty well recieved in the realms of consoledom.
Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were praised, and there had been some successfull FPS games on consoles, but in general OFD is right.

It was still a fun game.
Sephiroth in particular is an unmotivated, annoying villain, who for cool looks and for killing off a fav character has gotten to be widely adored.

That's what makes it evil.
kill you in your sleep for this list
Thank you for putting FF7 as #1...And im not being sarcastic.
No Love: You phail.
I'm actually surprised that HL2 made the list, because I don't hear about HL2 being the greatest game of all time, even though I browse the forums of at least a dozen HL2 mods on a regular basis...

FF7 most definately belongs on that list... it's got a ridiculous fanbase...

and then there's also Halo... which I believe Halo 2 should be on the list instead of Halo 1. You hear about Halo 2 being "Teh bestest gamezors of all time" a lot more (well at least I do).
I've been playing FFVII again for the last few weeks and I haven't noticed any of the "unmotivating plot;" because if it were unmotivating I wouldn't have spent two days making my pretty gold bird that I wouldn't get last time I played it (Though I think implementing the materia you find with it is a mistake as it looks like it could kill most bosses.) Also, you don't end up with "every skill on ever character" unless you spend 100-500 hours mastering all of the materia, giving your characters enough EXP to be level 10,000 >_> and you can't fit them all on each character anyway =/ you have to choose from 0-16 skills/spells each unless you find materia that gives you extra, so really you're getting shorted more than anything.

And for the Ocarina of time, the key phrase there was that you did not like 3D Zelda games :P
Maybe my memory is mistaken, been such a long time since I played the game, but I do recall getting materia that gave you all magic or all skills or all summons, and various things like that.
Well you either have to beat the game's two extra bosses, or pour hundereds upon hundereds of hours of time into the game to get them =/
