Just thought you'd like to know.

Also, the servers aren't as bogged down as many expected them to be, I downloaded the update in the time it took me to read the change list.
Also also, the SDK isn't out yet, which was really what I looking forward to :(

It sucks IMO.
New maps for Versus: Good. Survival mode: Good. SCREWING UP THE WHOLE GAME BY ADDING "TIMED" MELEE": BAD. Seriously, I don't care if sometimes as a hunter I got pushed off, it just told me I have to use the hunter how it was supposed to be used, a prowler. Not let them see me then pounce. But come on, timing melees?! That's horrible. |

It sucks IMO. That was before the DLC, unless they restricted it even further. Really, it was becoming a problem with people corner camping. Although, I did notice that good hunters could get below "shiva stacking" and you actually had to jump on top of them to beat them off your friends :P Regardless, it doesn't seem to have changed much gameplay wise. I rarely hit the cool down, and when I do, it's because I'm just hitting it randomly when a horde surrounds me. It is annoying that they "Removed convars related to melee fatigue". It would have been nice to let the individual server OPs decide if they liked it or not. |
Not sure if you have the PC or 360. 360 version just got that, where you melee five or so times then you have the little "recharge" bar. I agree, the corner camping did suck, especially in front of the elevator. But I think there was another way to prevent other then "Limit their melee"

But I think there was another way to prevent other then "Limit their melee" Ah, I didn't know you had the 360 version, so I guess this is the first you're seeing of it. Anywho, some of the other options were to allow friendly fire when shooting from inside of one another, allow friendly fire from melee, have Boomer bile slow down melee considerably, and have the smokers smoke choke survivors to death. I think the cooldown timer was the simplest solution, although I think the others would have been more effective at preventing camping. |
I predominantly prefer to play survivors, and I think the melee change was good. If the recharge bar is an issue for you, stop swinging around spamming melee wildly like a retard or corner camping, and try playing the game correctly.

It gets annoying when you're out of ammo, surrounded by a horde, and all you can do is melee. So it would have to take the time to recharge and you would die. |

Are you also going to complain that if you aim your mouse wrong when you fire, the bullets don't hit the zombies? How would the bullets hit the zombies if you have no ammo? What if the horde started when you had a low amount of ammo? |

Are you also going to complain that if you aim your mouse wrong when you fire, the bullets don't hit the zombies? That was a rhetorical hypothetical-- I wasn't referring to the situation you previously described, but instead explaining the general concept of "you should be punished if you perform badly". |

Hey guys, don't fight. We survivors need to stick together :O I vote we kill Campainger and take his medkit. |

Melee is also used to push off a horde so you can shoot them, and take less damage. If you have a limit of 5 now with the recharger, if you're fighting off a horde, start to reload and have to melee the horde off and your teammate gets a hunter on them, you pretty much have to wait till your done reloading in order to shoot the hunter, instead of hitting the horde off then hitting the hunter off. That's just one example, another is if you're down to only pistols which seems to happen more often since the tank is stronger. Anyway, just personal pref on that update. Anyone gotten anything past Bronze on Survivor mode yet? |
Nothing past bronze yet, but I've only played a couple survival matches, and all with pubbies (70% of which I guarantee were under 7). If I get together with friends, silver will be easy, and I imagine with practice and luck I'll eventually get a gold somewhere- won't be impossible for the regular player.
The melee recharge adds another element of worry and difficulty to the game, and I like it. Previously, the #1 answer to every problem except for "TANK!" was melee. Now, instead, melee is your backup plan- as is intended. |
I havn't played every map yet, but if anyone wants an easy gold try the hospital elevator map or the blood harvest finale.
Since the rooms are easy to defend, I find the best strategy is have everyone grab a shotgun and hole up in one room, when the tanks come you can take them down instantly if everyone is fully loaded - no molotov required!). The only tough part is getting back to the ammo but on the blood harvest map this isnt even an issue. |
PILLS HERE!
I haven't got a chance to check out the update. hopefully sometime later today or tomorrow. |
