In case you haven't seen this... a 47 year old spinster from a village in GB brought the house down on Britain's Got Talent.
I admit getting teary eyed watching it, it's a good watch:

And if you're interested, I've put up on my files a rare mp3 of her first and only recording for a church charity CD in 1999. Quite a stunning voice I'd say...

It's easy for people to just sing a song, but very few people tend to have a voice that resonates in your heart and has that emotional feel to it.

Oh yeah, I saw this on TV actually, on first glance, even second infact, she was an old woman getting ready to embarass herself, especially with her cheeky style, "I'm 47 year old, but that's only half the side of me" - that made me giggle ;)
Did you catch a glimpse of the woman who went bra-less infront of the TV and pretty much showed her breasts? That was even more hilarious ;) |
When she first come on i thought now this should be funny. But when she started singing i was really shocked and thought she could be a winner. My favourite part of the show has to the father and son greek pair.

A 35 year old stripper. xD |

The lady is a very talented singer...
But why should that be the big deal that this has apparently become? After all, there are many good/great singers out there that no undue fuss is made over... Is it simply because she doesn't look the part? What, exactly, does ones outward appearance have to do with ones talents (vocal or otherwise)? Why should it be so surprising that a frumpy-looking older lady could have a beautiful voice? It's that feeling of surprise that's gotten everyone worked up over this... In fact, for those that get choked up by it (at least the ones not prone to doing so), it likely has nothing to do with the emotions of the song, or with the sound of her voice alone (had you not seen her, or if she were a beautiful, young broadway singer, you likely would not have that reaction at all) It all comes from the unexpected and seeming mismatch between the way she sounds and your prejudice against the way she looks... However, this should not be so... There's no reason to form that judgement... |
