Texas lawmaker suggests Asians adopt easier names

AUSTIN — A North Texas legislator during House testimony on voter identification legislation said Asian-descent voters should adopt names that are “easier for Americans to deal with.”

...

Brown suggested that Asian-Americans should find a way to make their names more accessible.

“Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?” Brown said.
Back in the good old days of Ellis Island, the immigration officials did this for you. Why don't we go back to that?

On another note, we should have all Americans of Eastern European descent change their last names also. Too many consonants.
And while we're on it, why not make those people with hideously long (usually just sur but sometimes both) names be shortened to < 23 characters total? :P
He is right. I can watch an entire 52 episode long anime series, and not remember any of the names of any of the characters, let alone spell them.
haha, why don't we just go to referring to people by their SSN? And to be "friendly", use the last 4 digits?
A lot of Asian international students in the UK do this of their own accord, which is a bit of a shame. But I respect their decision to have me avoid butchering their name. But it's not something you ever see on paperwork.
Nice tags.

*Off-topic but, when will this be over?

Ah right...

I've been a bit swamped of late... will get to it before the end of the weekend.
"I understand it’s a rather difficult language"

Not like good old fashion English. We took the best parts of all the other languages, then forged them into the one true super language.

You have no idea how much this statement annoys me, facetious or not.
