This is the mystery file: http://members.byond.com/Gughunter/files/namethattune1.mid
Part 1: It plays fine in Anvil Studio but not at all in Winamp or Windows Media Player. (Actually, it comes up in both of them, at the proper length, but there's only silence.) I've installed the latest version of Winamp to see if that would help, but nope.
Part 2: What song is this from? I woke up with it in my head this morning and I can't remember the artist or the lyrics. It's not all that important, but it's bugging me because it seems like a tune I've heard a lot of times.
Update: Mystery 2 is solved. The song is (read backwards for answer) LLABTSAFYBYAWEHT.
Now I just have to figure out where I've heard it. Mystery 3: is it in a movie or something?

Thanks Jon... that suggests it may be something with my machine's configuration. When I get back to work I'll see if it plays on the machine there.
|
Haha, that was my first MP3, I actually converted it to WAV and had it playing in Duke3d instead of the techno in the bars, how's THAT for nerdy?
I totally could have solved that for you, now I'm sad that it's already solved :( |
Played fine for me in Winamp, too... I don't know what version I've got (forgot to check when it was open, and I can't be bothered to look again...lol), but I know it's not the newest one, because it's always prompting me to go get the latest version...lol
And I'm glad you figured it out, though, because I didn't recognize it until after I read the cleverly encoded answer, even though I loved that song when it came out (I even have their CD... speaking of which, "Out of my Head" is another good one) As to where you've heard it, I don't know... It's been out since '99, though, so you could have picked it up about anywhere by now...lol |
But I have an idea... Did you wake up to an alarm clock on the morning this was stuck in your head? If so, is it set to turn on the radio, or the regular beep? If it's a radio alarm, what sort of station is it on? The sort of station that would play that song? And, do you hit the snooze button once or twice before actually getting up?
If you follow that trail of questions with affirmative answers, then perhaps it was playing when the alarm went off, and it got into your head in that hazy time between sleep and wakefulness... |
DD: Nerdy, but less so than doing the same thing with the Star Trek theme music. The solution was courtesy of my sister (she gave me enough clues that I could Google the solution).
SSGX: Good guess, but nope -- I use a sadistic device called the "Screaming Meanie 110." It's basically a car alarm with a timer on it; I leave it in the bathroom so I have to get out of bed to turn it off. I highly recommend it, though it could cause some obvious problems for apartment-dwellers. |
Heh, sounds like an alarm clock I could use... Well, if I wasn't an apartment dweller, anyways...
Have you seen those rolling alarm clocks that fall off the nightstand, and roll into a different place in the room every morning when they go off, so you've got to get up and find them to turn them off? That's a pretty nifty gadget, too... |
I'm still using the alarm clock a friend of mines parents bought me when I went to college. I sort of modified it a bit though. I opened it, and hooked it up to a Concord, 6x9 car stereo speaker. It wakes me up fine :P

However, my winamp is version 2.81. :D
